yupp having both is no problem.
on windows, just choose a different directory

on osx, rename the unity folder to something else like Unity 2.6.1 and rename the app too!

I've defacto iphone 1.5.1, 1.6.x, 1.7, Unity 2.5.1, unity 2.6.1 and unity 3 b3 on my mac :) (yeah an effective way to flood several gigs of hd)

    Hi all,

what i noticed from my beta:
it doesnt open on my 10.4.11 mac but on my win7.
monodevelop doesnt open on my 10.4.11 either.
    (yea i have mono installed)

And lucas.meijer forgot to delete his email address out of the playersettings "company name". ;D

Island demo has shining yellow trees if you dived into the water and came out again and the character customization shader looks buggy, too.
I think theres a little work left :)
Let's hope everything gets fixed ... please take your time unity!

Right, as said in the release notes there isn't any 10.4 support yet.

The Car tutorial and project is enough justify to purchase.

Anyone has an example how to make AI cars?

I would love to see a kind of an additional subscription plan (or to pay in rates) for pro for those who can't afford to pay at once. You could block a serial via internet if someone didn't pay his rate. Actually you could make more money with it by making it more expensive for those who pay in rates. I bet many would use this.

    .

Right! Like Unity needs to be in the credit services industry. In my country, we have these things called credit cards. I'm sure you can find more info on the google.

The by problem that I see with this is that you get a month of pro and just put it on one computer. Then never hook it back up to the Internet.

Make it require an internet gateway on startup, and every few minutes.

The pay-by-subscription thing is daft. The infrastructure required to run it, in addition to having to make a separate build for it for verification makes it totally not worth it.

I can't seem to bake shadows into my beast lightmaps in iPhone basic. All the shadow settings are disabled and the lightmaps only create light, no shadows. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

ok I was able to solve the crashing at unity startup.
it was related to a quicktime compnonent called :

    Elgato Turbo.component

    after removal unity starts fine.
pff glad I was able to fix it :)

I love the ability to choose the interface color.

I know some people prefer a dark interface and others a brighter one.
To give the user the choice is really great!

In the new maya 2011 you are forced to the dark interface. I'm so glad Unity leaves this choice to the user! brilliant Thanks!

Anyone else having problems with the supplied version of monodevelop 2.4 not running at all (unhandled exception error on startup)?

I assume there would be no difference between the supplied version and just the current stable monodevelop 2.4, so I could just go and download that from the monodevelop website instead... or is it not as simple as that?

There is a little inconsistency on the debugger window.
The icons to close are on the right side instead of the left as is the GUI convention on OSX.

Our school pre-ordered Unity3 in the beginning of June, but we didn't get any beta access yet. Is this because we are an educational institute? Any chance we still get an beta before the release?

    You mean, the console window?
Which icons are the actual problem? I don't see anything particularly wrong with it.

The green orange and red buttons(maximise, restore, close) are on the right side in the console window. And they are on the left side on the snap window. They are both functional although the convention is to have them all on the left side.

I read somewhere that you can only change Unity's color in the pro version. Is this true?

Personally I prefer the bright colors, to me it doesn't make sense to call a darker skin pro, actually I would pay more for the bright skin if I had to.

It has been like that since Unity 2.5. We tried putting them into left side, but then they obscure the tab control.

Anyway, I think the current 3.0 betas have way larger problems than window buttons being on the same (wrong) side they've been in Unity 2.5/2.6 already :)

I see your point, although I think you would agree that it's nice to have an interface that is consistent.

Here's one way to deal with the tabs, I'm sure there are better ways too.
you may even have to keep it on the right if you wanted to have the windows version correct.
It's not a big priority just something I noticed.

The buttons are just horrible. They're smaller than any version of those buttons found in actual OS X, and their rollover states are completely broken. I wish they weren't even there - I only use keyboard shortcuts to perform the window functions. (Additionally, the keyboard shortcuts should trigger the "down" state of the buttons - doesn't happen.)

It seems that every version of Unity from 2.5 onwards has introduced weird UI issues. It must be a lot of work to keep fixing the relevant bugs. I wonder if it would have been better, programming time-wise, to not have gone with a cross-platform UnityGUI-based approach. To me, Unity iPhone / pre-Unity 2.5, while missing features, was much more logically navigable and much less broken-seeming.

I can't believe that of all things, you guys complain about the GUI. I haven't even really noticed anything different, my mind has been on all the features.

Hmm perhaps as a warning, backup your game to something portable and dissconect it.
I tried having both unity2.6 and 3.0 installed, but both remember the same last project and i accidently converted my backup to 3.0 too.

Unity should really have a dialog asking what project to load when you launch it :)

Probably not the best place to ask here?
But what would be the best way to import your game to 3.0, create export your stuff to a package in 2.6, start a new project in 3.0 and import it there?
So you can have all the new source stuff.

I just loaded my project and am having a bunch of purple textures

Anyway time to play with the new stuff ;)

If we didn't care about the interface, I don't know why we'd be using Macs. UT is great, Unity itself is great, and Unity 3.0 is definitely the best version yet. However, UT is not Apple or even Microsoft; you can't expect them to ever match the OS-native UI, even if the feature set and overall workflow makes up for the lack of usability and slightly messy appearance.

Pet peeves of mine are the inability to tab over all controls (Export Package is a good example) and the Animation View not obeying scroll-wheel conventions.

I just have to say I think it's absolutely SILLY to need Pro just to be able to change the scheme to dark.

While I'd most likely use the dark scheme, I certainly wouldn't be enticed to pay $1500 saying "wow, I can use a dark scheme if I go pro..."

That to me feels of being petty, something as (conceptually) simple as a UI color scheme change should be basic to the GUI across all versions.

I could see say, auto / incremental-project saving as a Pro feature, things like that which really differentiate between professional and casual development...

    C'mon UT, you're better than this - I'd hope...

I see a difference between complaining and giving feedback.
