I'm currently working part time on a project that I've had on the hard drive for some time. The Defense of St. Augustine is a game set in the late 17th century off the east coast of northern Florida. It's a simulation of being a galleon captain commanding a large ship against a fleet of British ships bent on invading St. Augustine, Florida. I don't have a GDD yet, nor any proper social channels set up. I'm hoping to get more of the artwork done (primarily of the galleon) itself.

This is a Unity 5 based project using the PBR workflow. I'm intending on getting an early build on Steam and letting folks beta test a very simple demo of controlling the ship and firing it's weapons. I was going to build up a ship controller from scratch and look for an off the shelf ocean solution as well until I found this gem. https://github.com/eliasts/Ocean_Community_Next_Gen

Here is a good 3d view of the ship I'm looking to replicate and some associated blueprints from an english version of a galleon. Google Maps Street View of Ship

I've already started on some of the cannons as can be seen here.

I also forgot to put in the post that I've set up a Facebook page to follow development and progress as well.

Very cool! St. Augustine is one of our favorite destinations and the history there is amazing. Great subject for a game!

I will pass this along to my Florida families when it is done. Could be a great way to encourage kids to learn a little bit about history and have fun. Most of the kids in our homeschool group are teens so perfect for them. :)

Thanks! I have the advantage of only being a half hour south of St. Augustine, so I'm very familiar with it as well. I feel like the history part of it is fascinating for all ages and has a story to tell for sure. What I'm doing here will be a fictional scenario, but I'm making it historically accurate and hope to include historical figures and events.

I've decided to document the creation of some of the assets for this project as tutorials. In this video I build up a high resolution wooden barrel in Autodesk Max.

We are four hours to the southwest, but still, worth the drive. :) Maybe I can convince the family to head up there for a vacation soon.

Fictional is fine. If it gets anyone, kids or adults, interested in learning more, it still works. :)

The setup to allow flags and cloth in the project to have dynamic motion. This is all done within the shader, not using any skeletal animations or blendshapes. The cloth damage is still a work in progress and I'm hoping to add singed and/or burnt edges.
