On July 28th, 2021, we are releasing an update that will result in some changes to the Collaborate package. You will see the package is now called the Version Control package, which will allow you to use either Collaborate or Plastic SCM for Unity for your projects in the Unity editor.

We want to stress that you can continue to use Collaborate as you would normally. As a reminder, Collaborate is currently kept in maintenance mode. We are not adding new features, but we are still supporting its existing feature set by fixing bugs and ensuring the latest editor version is supported.

Our version control team is working on the logistics for the future of Collaborate, in particular how it will evolve and leverage the Plastic SCM foundation. While we don't have a fixed timeline for when the changes will be communicated, we can assure you we are committed to bring an intuitive version control experience that exposes the right features based on your team's needs and role.

Two other important clarifications regarding the new Version Control package:

    • You won't be able to use both version control solutions at the same time. You will be able to choose which one you want to enable and there will be a way to disable one in order to use the other.

    • Plastic SCM for Unity in the Version Control package will not be compatible with the Unity Asset Store plugin. You will need to uninstall the Asset Store Plugin to use Plastic SCM for Unity in Package Manager.

For those who are interested in migrating projects from Collaborate to Plastic SCM, you can use the Collaborate migration tool to invite your team members, set up your Plastic SCM workspace, and install Plastic SCM for Unity (beta).
