It's like returning home after a long absense. Thanks for listening to the community.

Yeah, thankfully. Efficiency and functionality trumps "fancy" design getting in your way and being devoid of functionality. I'm so unbelievably happy we're back on this now. I don't know if I really should thank them, since they did not listen (or ask) the Community about the initial change in the first place and that still stings a little, but all the same I'm glad it's back to the old so Thanks for no longer forcing us into it at least.

Hopefully it staves off the disaster of a forum move for a few more months so we can get our game (more) finished and then they can do whatever they want.

Look if "deity of your choice" cared about unity forum, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

I'm glad that unity finally listened to the voice of reason and reverted the forum back (although it took a whole week).

It would be nice if nothing like that happened ever again.

That is not how deities work, they seem to allow quite a lot to happen, even though they "care". :p

Sometimes you just gotta send your message up to the higher powers..... you know, tweet to the board members and make them aware of the disaster that is taking place. Once in awhile they answer.

I saw a lot of posts from a few saying they had no issues, apart from minor hiccups. Yeah, minor hiccups like mobile browsing and replying not working at all, pages constantly refreshing, posts being auto-deleted, mod tools being 100% useless, clicking a thread brought you to page 1, post 1 and a murder/host/pride of other problems.

Yeah, the only sensible choice was to go back to the drawing board.

These old forums are so much more responsive, with posts updating as I type (most of the time, anyway), the notification list making sense (and clicking the post actually going there) and most things happening without a page reload.

Still have a few issues with the old forums now...such as unable to look at a profile. At least I am not being moderated any more. lol Also, the member list seems to be gone.

    lol

Well, I had used all sorts of extensions and stuff on the new forums so my eyes were okay. My hands though are MUCH happier now. No massive scrolling just to read the posts. :)

I haven't put on my brace yet and no pain!

I never did find out where the notification was going to take me in the thread. It might take me where I left off, it might toss me 4 pages back, it might put me at the last post. I spent more time trying to remember what I had read last than I care to admit.

I missed this forum :( Glad it's back!

Also missed the awesome emoticons :D

Let's hope the next time will be more feature-parity with this forum and much more stable. Also, let the community test and give feedback before making such a change :)

Really it is so much better. I appreciate the old forums so much more now.

One thing I notice is that there is much less clicking required. One can reply and quote in one click. Then write the post and click to post.

With the new ones, we had to click to reply, click to quote, then click to get your cursor in the right place to type, type the reply and then hit to post. While doubling the number of clicks may seem like nothing, it really is something when one has RSI.

I hope they never return to Lithium. I now have this fear that it will happen again. lol

The amount of clicks was crazy on Lithium. Oh, and now we can make links to things like https://xenforo.com again! YAY! No Orwellian auto-mod!

    I know right? :D
This forum feels so much more user friendly, responsive and efficient.
Less clicks, less new windows, less empty space, more features.
Even when this forum is much more white than the other one, the contrast in this is so much better for the eyes.

Funny...but it is as if we bonded over this common experience and now can relate the horror and humor in the situation. Kind of nice....a good thing out of a not so good thing.

Thank goodness. Sure the search needs improving, but the ease of use, functionality, and simplicity are almost perfect. It's good to be home. Thank you for listening Unity.

It would probably be a good idea to start a fresh feedback thread, the other one is a probably a bit biased. Now that we have the stable forum back we can at least go test the new one out and come back to sanity to report feedback.

The clicks increased exponentially when you tried to break up a quote, like I'm doing all the time here in Xenforo (The Name That Was Forbidden).

    My serotonin levels are fine.

We've all got mild PTSD from this. No joke.

It didn't give me any trauma other than we are still leaving the bullet points on our next development meetings with 'Engine change?' as the bullet point. These kinds of half baked decisions are becoming far too frequent to try and base my livelihood on.

I think part of the problem is that everyone focused on the 'look' instead of the function of the sites. This forum is an actual forum. Threads are made to have a long lifespan with multiple participants that take part for long term discussions. The Lithium system is very clearly a short term discussion system. If you look at the customer list you can see it is mostly companies that are using it at a public facing troubleshooting board and not for a real discussion center.

edit: they switched the space on my name by a "-" ... o_O

They might still try to upgrade the forum, except that this time it'll be probably done in the sane fashion - like what steam did when they introduced steamcommunity.

At the moment forum.unity3d.com redirects to forum-old.unity3d.com, so it wouldn't be surprising if at some point forum-new appeared.

If I were a new person looking for Unity information and saw old-forum in the URL, I would suppose these were obsolete forums and be discouraged.

    Then need to change this.

    My deity has spoken!

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet. It's only the first day of the reversion, and they're just switching DNS redirects around. They probably want to keep the Lithium forum available so people can find things they posted there and link to it.

I have RSI and it affects my hand and my thumb. So lots of moving of the mouse is not a good thing. I also have a special ergonomic mouse (very special) and keyboard so things work a little differently for me.

Maybe...but I am fine now. As long as I don't have to deal with weird forums. lol

Honestly, my forum use really is only Unity at the moment and maybe a few asset store developers that have Unity. Oh, and the ones for our game. All of those are well done forums that do not have tons of white space, the posts are not spread out, I don't need to triple click to create a post, etc.

My issue is manageable. It is when something comes along that changes things that it flares.

A forum that does not take into account the number of scrolls and clicks or white space is not a forum that wants to attract people like me. So I won't use them.
