    Hi folks,

I thought Id start by making a simple maze/dungeon game with traps, secret doors, etc.. At least I thought it fairly simple and could muddle my way through, but running into difficulties before I knew it..

I started with searching about maze creation and found a video showing how to make a maze using squares on a plane, using blender. Great, I thought Im familiar with blender. I created the maze, added a room with a pit and tiles that you must navigate (Indianna Johnes style). I textured the floor and the walls, then created the tiles with glyphs. All looked great in blender.

The video only showed to create and import a maze, not texture it - here was my first and ongoing issue. I removed the tiles for the moment (trying to simplify) and with some research, found I had to bake the texture. So with a mesh and a baked texture I attempted a simple maze. The result was a maze in which textures so huge they didnt look right and even if they had, the texture file would be so big, it would be useless for gaming - it would slow the game to a crawl - no game I know of would work this way.

Anyone have any idea on how to texture a maze created with blender?

I thank anyone in advance, who may help with this..

Create UVs and apply good looking textures to them? (either paint them, or use photos/tweaked photos)

I'm not sure what it is you're asking here.

    Google is your friend.

And there's probably a forum on the Blender website to ask just this sort of thing :D

    Hi Rich,

Thanks for your reply. I have googled and googled and googled. If I could find the answer out there, I wouldnt be asking for help. The blender forums will help for blender specific issues, but this is external and specific to unity, hence why I ask here...

There should be nothing to it — if your textures look correct in Blender, they should look correct in Unity too.

Perhaps post some screen shots to illustrate the trouble you're having.

Not really true, since there are ways of texturing in Blender that won't work in Unity. As stated above, you need to UV map the mesh. No Blender-specific techniques will work.

Ah, I didn't realize that. That's probably it then.

You can, of course, use Blender to create UV maps and paint them. I enjoy paint directly onto models in the 3D viewport once I have generated and saved a UV image in the Image Editor.

Although this requires a Blender material to render it with lighting in Blender's 3D viewport, you can set the material to a generic diffuse and have a very good idea of what your model will look like in Unity.
