Terrain tree billboards and look at camera

    I haven't done anything with terrains for while and was pleased to find billboard trees are now tethered at their bases so they don't float in the air. However, is there a technical reason why they aren't set to rotate only on their Y axis so they follow the camera but still look perspectively correct?
    This quick movie screen shows just that effect in cinema 4d and is more natural looking:

    Whereas in Unity the billboards 'lean' to the camera when you look up which is not so natural:

    I think this suggests that the billboards are also set to look at camera in the z axis? Perhaps there is a setting I've missed which fixes this?
