    Hello,

I am working with HDRP for the first time and have a strange effect I would rather avoid. Basically, one side of my trees (the side away from the light) is glowing green while the side receiving the direct light appears normal. Pictures:

    Other side: upload_2022-12-8_14-28-55.png

I tried checking and unchecking some boxes on the materials and terrain settings to no avail. Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks

I had the same problem! Just trying to remember how I solved it. It might have been replacing the shader... Did you upgrade the tree from a previous non-HDRP project? Sorry, I will try to remember. But (1) you are not going crazy (it happened to me too) and (2) I did fix it.

looks like something related to diffusion profile to me

As @nehvaleem states, this is where a translucent/subsurface scattered material is missing a diffusion profile,
or if it's present, it's not added to the Diffusion Profile list in your in-use HDRP asset @ Graphics > HDRP Settings
or in a diffusion profile override component ( the latter is a little different)

Okay, good to know. I will try messing around with that setting. It was an out of the box HDRP Tree package from the asset store, i didnt mess with any of the shaders, materials, textures.

Yeah, that's fine, since it's a project-level setting, Diffusion profiles aren't added to the project settings automatically, typically the engine ships with two by default, Foliage and Skin which are however, if you click the model and it has it's own profile, there will be a "FIX" button next to it ( which is the same as adding that to the setting menu)

If there are non you could click the radio button next to it and add the foliage

Okay, so i am a bit lost as I am not finding the other Diffusion Profiles for the tree/foliage asset i downloaded. The ones you see in my snapshot are the Foliage and Skin profiles you mentioned and have always been in the Diffusion Profile Assets on the HDRP Global Settings.

You mention "click the model and it has its own profile", but I checked the mesh, materials, prefabs, and textures, and I don't see any other profiles and nothing with a FIX button. So I am assuming there are none and I need to add the foliage, but that is where i am stumped. I understand how to create a new HDRP Diffusion Profile but I don't understand how to apply my new assets' materials/textures/etc. to this profile.

Any more assistance would be amazing. Sorry, I am a 2D dev for the most part so this is a learning experience for me.

I realised I missed the L on my bold material, probably didn't help you seeing it either.
    Well done for finding it.
