Terrain Brushes not updating when settings are changed

This used to work before the U5 update but every since then, I am unable to get the terrain brushes to work properly. If I change settings on a terrain brush, the changes won't take effect until I select another object, then select the terrain again. After that the brushes have the new settings. This makes it extremely difficult and tedious to work.

I tried making a new project with nothing but a terrain and the brushes work and update settings just fine. I also tried making a new scene in the old project with a new terrain, and the bushes did not update settings. So it's something broken with the old project. I don't have any assets that modify brushes or terrain.

Any idea as to what might be causing it or how to go about troubleshooting it?

Solved. Apparently the inspector window bugged out after update. Closing it and opening another one seems to have fixed it.

This happens to me all the time, though seems like it happens more often in my larger projects. One "solution" I've found is to reset Unity layout to default, but just replacing the inspector window seems better :p

This bug has been around for quite some time, and I'm still not sure why it happens in some of my projects but not in others.
