That's just quality related. Medium quality has no reflection distortion. Check the water object and increase its quality and/or project's quality. Another sure sign is that the tree canopy is one-sided. It's only one-sided at lower quality.

    Greetings.

The water looks nice but I have noticed that the water becomes ... washed out ... when using a linear color space as opposed to gamma, to the point where it really can't be used as an asset.

    Is this a known issue?

    Thanks.

Linear color space completely changes the way a typical scene looks, so you need to use customized shaders to compensate. In case of water, you'd have to change the colors and possibly tweak the shader itself. Nothing looks the same in linear space as it does in gamma.

Shouldn't he only need to remove the gama from his inputs add it at the end of the shader? I'm thinking of going full linear pipeline but it's hard as even if unity supports it it seems no assets takes it into consideration pretty much ;(

I have an issue with this on OSX running latest Unity Pro.

    $2013-09-18_0807_Water Issue.png

You can see the water essentially killing the trees. Unity pro water works fine so don't think its my trees.

What do i need to do to fix this?

    Thx.

Your trees are using a shader that draws them before the water, and doesn't write anything to depth. You either need to change the render queue of the tree shader to be the same as water, or drawn after the water. Either that, or change the water's render queue by the opposite.

Tasharen Water is awesome! We are making a game for iPad and it was looking like the perfect solution. We had to read those 11 pages in the forum to understand that this asset only supports low quality for mobile platforms...

From the description in the asset store, we understand that it is supposed to be better than Unity Water Pro. On mobile platforms, the high quality features such as reflection are available in the Unity Pro Water, so it is confusing. Considering that in Tasharen Water those high quality features are already available for computers, it would be great to see it working for mobile. Do you think it can be done?

Shouldn't the water's render queue default to the same as unity water? Would make the most sense so that it could be a drop in replacement (no one wants to fiddle with render queue orders as if you have many packages that may break things in cascade and require editing all the packages you had to change on each update etc).

Thats especially true for people relatively new to unity. I swapped unity water back in because it just works.

    hi
I just played around with water 4 pro and it works fine on mobile, samsung s3. Why yours use the lowest quality setting? It should work just fine on mobile if this is faster than water 4. Any way that the low quality is not hardcoded so that now or on the future we can have the full potential on mobile?

Short and simple version? Because I haven't gotten around to it. Back when the package was created, mobiles had no access to the depth texture. Is it possible to modify it to work now? Sounds like it is, but I have not looked into it. You can check the code and disable the part that forces it to use the lowest quality setting on mobiles, if you wish.

well... but we shouldn't have to look at code and understand the structure. Can you please update it? Water4 pro by default on mobile is way ahead on quality and speed compared to this one. I'm sure this can be changed but WE should not be the ones working on it for a paid asset. This is one of the main reasons we purchase assets right? to reduce workload.

I will, I am merely saying that if you want it now, you can look into the script that controls the water and remove the part that forces it to be of low quality on mobiles.

maybe you can help me with this. I want to make my scene look close to, or if possible better, than my current water 4 pro scene. The problem is that the Tasharen water seems to darken really fast on distance, so it almost looks like oil instead of water. Also I can't see distorsion going on, which someone on the asset store said was easy to add but I have no idea how.

These are the 2 scenes, first in water 4 pro
    $water4vs.JPG

    and this one in Tasharen
    $watertah.JPG

I tried my best to make them similar, but as you can see the sun reflection in one is a circular white spot, while in water 4 is a nice distorsion. Also the water at far is completely dark, I think the script needs some kind of transparency bar to change that.

    Thanks

The steeper the angle at which you look at the water, the more it's going to reflect, and the less it will refract. Darkening at a distance implies that the skybox it's using is also dark. Make sure it's referencing your bright skybox.

Unity's water comes with two components -- one doing the mesh displacement, and the other being the actual shader for the water. You can actually use the same mesh displacement part from the Unity's water, just apply a Tasharen water shader to it to make it look better.

i try using the included skybox, all it did was change my default refrlection from my skybox to the one included, but it was still very very dark at the ends which make it look like some kind of ghost town :(

As for the mesh displacement/shader.... mind to help? i have no clue how to do what you are saying.
In any case, water 4 fails badly in mobile when it displaces, which is what i was trying to achieve with your version :)

Sorry I didn't read every single post in 11 pages, but it looks like the reason that Mobile looks so different is because it lacks the depth measurement by sampling the Z Buffer from the terrain. Is there a chance that you could make a vertex-color version instead? The water mesh would be a low-poly plane with vertices painted white-to-black to describe depth below the plane. Sample the interpolated color and use that for the depth-coloring measure.

Wanted to ask: will this shader work with an arbitrary mesh? Some stuff like mountain rivers can't be represented by a simple plane and I have to make a full model for the water surface that works with the terrain: will this shader display reflections and other stuff properly in that case? My experience with the standard Unity water wasn't the best, it fails to display reflections properly even for two horizontal planes with a differing height, to say nothing of a proper sloped river surface.

    Hi,

I still have issues with this.

I paid for it and would really like to use it.

The trees - a whole other set from another supplier are using the Hidden/Nature/Tree Creat... shader. I can't seem to access this.

I see that I can change the following in the Tasharen Water Shader:

    Tags { "Queue" = "Transparent-10" }

What do i need to change this to?

    Thanks,
    Adam.

Please use the support forum found here: http://www.tasharen.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0

I get notified of all posts there. I rarely check the Unity forums these days. Also please rephrase your question. The shader in question is just a part of Unity, you can get access to it by downloading the unity shaders package. It's not clear what issue you're having.

I've read that Tasharen Water doesn't support Linear color space. Any changes on that? We are looking for water to work with skyshop from marmoset, all in linear.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Can you post a screen shot of how it looks up close, from the POV of someone standing on the beach?
    Thanks!

I also had issues with tasharen water that never got resolved - unity pro water works fine - but tasharen had some issues with my unity trees which were scaled to a value different to 100% - and as a result have not been able to use the asset.

Pity as its a pretty cool asset.

One question...does the asset include ship trails as seen at the demo screenshoots?

I know this thread is pretty old, but I can't find the Tasharen Water pack on the asset store. Anyone know why it was removed?
