Hi there i am finally introducing my upcoming mac and pc game : Taorh (i don't use the long name yet :p) Taorh is a game that is about a guy (haven't modeled him yet!) "H" we call him and "H" gets sucked into a vortex where he can time travel and also has to, in order to get home to his own time! remember this is in early stage development and i have literally spent 1.5 yo to get to where i am now and i am always open for criticism except the direct haters who i won't listen to because i guess they're just jealous (or something even worse!) i hope you enjoy looking at the video in the link! By the way the game cameras are based on the cameras from Crash Bandicoot and please do bear in mind i'm not attempting to create "THE" new Crash Bandicoot game so...
    but, thanks in advance
    davem250.

By the way i plan to create another video which hopefully has better quality and which can really show the new features! Sorry for the lack of quality but i guess that's what you get for using iMovie...

To all interested, i just want to say that i will upload a video of a prototype level which i'm currently work on, it is way more interesting (if i have to say it myself :p) than the levels that you can see in the videos above! this is a completely redesigned level which i intend on to be within the final version of The Adventure of Rotten Herman!
But i have to model building and all that :D I'll be back asap! see ya :D

Looks very promising, especially when you look at the progress that has happened between the old and the newer video.
Actually Super Mario 64 kinda popped into my head when i saw your video. Which is meant as a compliment :)

    Great work, Keep it up!

Thank you very much Dejrullen, actually i was aiming for a mix of both Super Mario 64 & Crash Bandicoot, but the latter will hopefully show in the next video, and you compliment is fitting nicely especially because i have been working on this game in loosely 1.5 yo, where i started with absolutely nothing and the prototype level i show in the above videos are a very simple and a very short level (actually ... Too short) with which in one of the levels the only mod i did to show a little difference is another bridge and another platform to walk on... it is first today (at least 1 yo later after creating that level in the videos above!) that i have been clear enough in my head to start working on a real prototype :p so i do hope that you all will like it (even though it basically holds a lot of boxes :D remember! it ain't final level!) but i am very grateful for every positive thoughts i get with Taorh since it has been a slow development until feb. this year! Ooh, also to notice i have plans on getting at least the Egg into some kinds of treasure chests... will that be appropriate enough or should i do it with either the Keys, or one of the Gems??? or do you guys think i should totally skip the treasure chests??? i really would like to get your opinions because as i have said i am aiming to hit that Crash B similarity but with a whole new story! Thanks for your comments so far ;)

Here is a small example of how the level 4 eventually will be like, though it will be looking more interesting than just a lot of boxes :D hope you enjoy!

There is a special place in my heart for platformers and colorful games haha. Please just promise me you won't change his animations that he has so far they're perfect! And I am a huge fan of Super Mario 64 and all of the Crash Bandicoot games that were made by Naughty Dog.

Here is an total (well... maybe not total :p) overhaul of level 4, i have replaced all of the cube buildings with a little better looking cube buildings :p i also show fir the first time one of the power ups you'll be given after a certain place throughout the story of the game, and the power up is... daDadaDa... The Triple Jump :p i have made 3 power ups so far, Double Jump, Triple Jump and lastly, Run / Sprint power up. i also keep forgetting that i feel like i should tell you guys that my game is best played with Xbox360 Controller (i don't know if there is a difference between setting up the wired or wireless??? but i'm using the wireless.) so you might notice me playing around with the character :p the video also reminds me that i seriously got to optimize the head kill on the enemies... you will see what i mean ;) and also (dare i say it?) the game WILL be 100% free ;) to anyone who wants it when i release it :) so far i'm (100% guaranteed!) developing for the Mac App Store but i also wishes to develop for the Steam store i just don't know if people would enjoy my content enough to get it greenlit??? anyhow i hope you'll all enjoy the quirky video (i make some rather newbie mistakes :D).
    See you all ;)

Ooh... almost forgot to put the video in here :D

Do it on Steam just don't do a Concept Pitch, do it when the game is complete. I was gonna put my game on steam too and I'm pretty confident after looking at a bunch of the games that made it onto Steam ;) Plus when you finish this game I'll advertise the crap out of it haha!

Nice camera work btw. It's simple and it's not annoying, more than most action games can say about themselves.

Great! i now have now succeeded in implementing a... gas leak... when the Run / Sprint is enabled the you can now... fart :p which currently is just showing the player that he can move a lot faster :D And Lazdude17, regarding the steam green light... don't worry i won't submit my game until it is finished enough for the implementation of the steam achievements :D i don't know why but i just love the thought of have achievements in my game :D maybe i'm just odd :p anyway that is just an minor update i thought i'd give :) see you later guys!

I have an new and better update (for some!) i can now tell you guys that i am developing Taorh both as a third person platformer (the mode you see in the videos above :)) but also i am making it possible for the Oculus Rift to be used! i have made a new thread in the official Oculus Rift forums where my link for Taorh alpha build for Mac OS X can be found!
But i give you a link to the download here :)

Please do note that the build is only made for Oculus Rift and is not intended to be used as a pc monitor experience! also if you decide to download this alpha build you automatically agree to the terms of not pirating this software or make money on it for your own benefits!

    Cheers.

EDIT! I have now made a working build for the Windows platform :) I hope you enjoy...
Please note that you should definitely read the RTF file in the Windows version of the zip file it is Really Important because otherwise you will receive an saving error!

Hi there yet again, first i want to apologize to KheltonHeadley for just leaving the podcast all of a sudden, i had been very tired so i couldn't focus on answering much, i am very sorry :( i shouldn't have done so, i know that! and for that Khelton, i apologize! i hope you aren't too mad at me...

    next up in line:

I have re-uploaded my game both for mac and pc with which you can (hopefully!) switch between Oculus version and Normal version (NOTE! this function should ONLY work IF you have the Oculus Rift DK hooked up, otherwise you shouldn't be able to press the white checkbox in the main menu!) Also, as an important thing i learned when KheltonHeadley made that podcast i should NOT had removed the keyboard functions, so i am happy to say they have been re-implemented :) Also if there is anything you either want to ask me about or something like that, please don't hesitate to ask :) (don't worry, i won't bite :D) As a last thing, i want to thank you all for testing my game, i really appreciate it!

Who will make money from such simple prototype ? it's just a character jumping on platforms with no real level design and textures. You should propose a WebPlayer if you worry so much about who could do something with your demo.

i have been working on this game in loosely 1.5 yo
    What means 1.5 yo ? year ?
I use physic platformer kit and i done such 3D person platforming demo in some hours. You should look at the physic platform kit as it has more advanced physics gameplay and better movements.

The name Taorh , make think of some viking or medieval game instaed of platforming, perhaps change it in the future.
    Keep improving.

Zen I'm not sure why you're being so negative. Many people could upload it to their site with ads, that would count as monetization. I see level design, not sure what you're looking at.

1.5 years can mean anything, maybe since the beginning he's been learning development and did it all on his own, not some kit to make it all for him. Many people do projects as a learning experience. Not download assets to make a game as fast as possible. Also, if you couldn't tell he's aiming for a PS1/PS2 era style game, so using realistic or advanced kits/physics would make the game feel different, when he's clearly aiming for something. The name is a longer name, Taorh being the abbreviation. He's said this in his above posts.

Ok, i didn't know such silly people could exist stealing other people work , i was not aware that existed. About level design actually this is what we call prototyping with untextured and simple cubes.

I just find that so big with Unity that is so easy to larn and providing you already a character controller and lot of tutorials almost ready to use. 1.5 year to make a wal and jump character i just find that really big.

You are right i was too negaitve, and not all people got same skills in same areas indeed.

Hi Zen, i can perfectly understand why you think that 1.5 years is a long time, but i had to learn EVERYTHING the ground up, meaning i tried to once learn TorqueScript without any luck! and after a major disaster inTorque3D i decided to just forget everything about programming my own game! then one day i thought that maybe i should give Unity3D a real chance, and then i thought i could learn c# right away, but alas i had to start with JS, which is fine! but when you're ambitions are higher (C#!) then you are quite dissappointed in yourself, and i didn't have a very high self-esteem at that point! then after learning JS and thinking to myself, "hmm, i am not getting very far with this" then i just kicked myself into believing that now was the time to seriously learn C# and i have actually worked with C# ever since! i am not trolling you or mad at you, but i am honestly a slow thinker (in short terms: i am not as fast to learn as i was when i was a kid :D) and the reason why i let people download my game instead of using a webplayer version is simply because i want to show how far i've gotten, but also the final version (when finished!) :) I am actually quite proud of how far i've gotten with my game because in approx. the first year i actually didn't go anywhere with Taorh! I hope you understand... Also thank you Khelton for answering the 1.5 years

P.s: Taorh stands for: The Adventure Of Rotten Herman (like stinking Herman (but i might just change the name, i don't know that for certain yet!))
Also, YES! Unity is very easy to learn but when you develop for 1 year and also have some F***** up neighbours keep trolling you because they want Things to go their way ALL the F****** time, then you honestly don't get anywhere with you're game :p (Which Means that for about a year ago, i moved to a Whole other city and i feel way better now!)

Thank you for reading this, and i hope you understand better now, why it has taken so long to get to this point:) I am not mad at you for the messages! I can perfectly understand, that you think 1.5 years is a long time for this short demo, but i have also been developing for other levels! not only this one in the demo :) the other (and the one in the demo!) levels just needs to be completed, like i have said at the headline, this is very early WIP :)

    Cheers.

    No need to justify yourself.
Like any indie, you didn't worked full time on your project and done lot of other things around so it's normal.
Give us interesreting gameplay next time :)

The game is looking good so far. I will give it a try when I have a chance.

I can relate to the time it's taken you so far. I am working on a similar type of game. I probably started about a 1.5 years ago also, but am not nearly as far along as you seem to be. I am an experienced programmer, but am brand new to game development and Unity (and C# for that matter). From the outside it may seem like a long time for the progress (and probably is), but it's a hobby and not a job. Between my day job and my family, I am lucky if I get a few hours a week to work on the game, and a lot of that time gets eaten up by experimentation or trying to figure out why something isn't working the way I thought it should.

Keep up the good work and good luck with the game.

Hi Everyone, i have been away for a while but i am still developing and i originally wrote that i had cancelled this game but that is not the case :) i received my DK2 (Oculus Rift Dev Kit) and i have finally made the game playable in the Rift :D If you're interested and you got a Rift then you can download the concept demo on the Oculus' forums!

I will keep updating once in a while but don't expect too much on this forum!

The main reason why i chose to go the "Rift" way, is mainly because i get to play with a Dev Kit, but also because i believe we have finally arrived in the era of VR :D

I don't know how much optimized the game is exactly out of the Rift, but inside it look amazing and i have always wanted to be a part of something, so i thought "why not VR???"

That was my Little story, now i am happy to tell you Guys that you can get the working concept demo over at OculusVR.com in the Works in Progress section :) if demands are high enough i might just provide a direct link in here ;-)

The game will be crossover gaming, meaning that you can choose to play in rift mode if you have a rift, or, you can play normally by not enabling the rift!

constructed criticism is always helping but trolling will be ignored!
Thanks so much for your time :D I hope i'll see you in the OR forums ;-)

That would be an awesome thing but alas, not possible :(
I am one man and don't own a company, so that makes it extremely difficult to get access to an dev kit :(
But for now, it will be PC and Mac (Linux is currently not supported by the OR Dev Kit!)
Anyway thank you for your comment, i really appreciate it ;)

Occulus gives headhaches after some time, its' not the VR era, it's the headhaches era instead.

I hope you will keep the non occulus standalone PC version.

I will, don't worry about that ;) and i am sorry to hear that the Oculus gives you headaches, that is not the intention ;)

EDIT : Btw for people wanting to see this game end up on the PSVita, i have some great news :D Thanks to Black_Eagle (here on these forums ;)) i was able to find out that i was already accepted as a PSM developer, so i have been using these last few days on porting over the game to PSVita, and i have unfortunately figured that i need to require Money for the game (which i rather won't but i got no option there if the game should be on PSVita :() but i will require the minimum amount of Money i can require ;) i am not doing this for the Money, i am simply enjoying playing around with Unity and ending up with a playable game :p I also want to thank everyone WHO has been supportive so far, it really Means a lot to me ;)

    Cheers,
    David M.

    lol
Im' not the only one, and occulus like other 3D visual system is only using the visual default of human eye to give impression of 3D , this is more effort for the brain, it makes you more tired than playing non 3D effect games.

Anyway, give us some new videos or pictures soon :)

I will upload a video pretty soon (now that i have gotten Fraps to Work flawlessly on my iMac :)) but please take notice on that i have mainly been working on the mechanics as i have found several bugs, like, when saving the game... i could save but if i shut Down the game, restarted, loaded the saved game, saved inside the loaded saved game, quit the game Again, restarted and reloaded the game once Again i found out that the saved collectibles was removed from the saved file so Little Things like this is something i have been working very hard on fixing, so i hope you can see it in the video :) but we'll see :D

    Small Update :
I have taken three screenshots of in-game footage (so far there's nothing else :p) of the PSM version to show what Progress i have made there :p i have unfotunately been forced to remove every enemy in the first level because if they were in the game on the psvita it would result in an totally unplayable game (3 constant Fps!!!) so i have no choice at the moment :( i will also soon upload footage of the Windows and Mac version (there's no difference with the PC and Mac versions!) Thanks for sticking by :) Have a great day ;)

This is the lobby / Hub room...

This is the Level i was mentioning that i had to remove the enemies... you will be able to see the difference very soon!

Here's another Picture of the same level near a treasure chest :p

Also take notice on the shadows, i have decided to use real time shadows instead of pre-rendered because there really isn't that much of a difference in fps! (maybe 1-3 fps less when using real-time shadows!)
