I suspect that I don't represent the mainstream audience for assets, but here are my thoughts.

Low-poly assets are all the rage, since mobile is so huge and your assets certainly would fit the bill (I guess the idea is for something like a shooter or RTS on mobile or web, right?). It seems that there's already tons of low-poly stuff out there though.

Given that there are a number of us developing games for Oculus Rift/PC, just PC, and consoles, I can't help but wonder if that's a mostly untapped market. Since PC's/consoles don't have those low-poly restrictions, we tend to look more for high-poly, high res assets.

The upcoming space games like EVE Valkyrie, Elite Dangerous, and of course Star Citizen are going for more of a high detailed, semi-realistic vibe, which is sort of the direction I'd like to go with my space game. I'm not expecting assets on the level of a $45 million dollar game (Star Citizen), but generally that direction in terms of style and fidelity at least.

Kind of like these available assets:

It's entirely possible that it's not cost-effective to spend more time on more detailed stuff like that, I don't know.

Thanks for the great input. :) I'll consider doing higher rez stuff in the future. I'm had a bunch of people tell me they love the look and feel of my starships, they like the style. I think that's why I've continued to use it.

Totally makes sense. I'm sure it's very appealing to have so much affordable and high quality artwork available where the style all matches like that. Unfortunately I don't currently have any game designs that can use it. :(

There is a lot to be said for indie games now that use the same art style for assets. Most indie game designers I would imagine would want quality and stylish models for their games. :) I guess like everything it's all personal opinion and taste. ;)

I'm planning on continuing to develop packs based on these 'races', like buildings, etc. To broaden what people can find and use.
