This game looks look very like my abandoned game Swimmy Sub on Android. Where you dodge hooks as well.. Someone used the same name as me for their game on IOS not that i care lol.

Hello all! I am proud to say that Blue Bean Apps is now known as Evil Square!

I won't make Swimmy for a while. I have given up on forming a partnership with a graphic designer, so what I will do is make a simple game with simple graphics (basically, solid colored geometric shapes) to make enough money to either hire an artist or to buy assets that I want. Swimmy WILL be a game in the future, just not this year. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience, but I can ensure you that the game I will start work on tomorrow will be just as fun, challenging and addictive as Swimmy is!

The first game I plan on making under the name Evil Square is my own take on the popular flash game, The World's Hardest Game (Google it if you haven't heard of it). What I mean by "my own take" is that it won't be an exact clone of the original game. There will be enough differences to make my game unique. I am just referring to The World's Hardest Game for some starting ideas, some of which I will improve on or add to. The tentative title for this game is "A Rage Game."

I will make a thread for A Rage Game in a week or two, once I have enough done to take screenshots of and to have at least one playable level as a demo.

For the rest of today, I will work more on this account. Blue Bean Apps is NO MORE! Blue Bean Apps is now Evil Square, with the slogan of "Live Evil. Play Hard."

You can see why I chose the name Evil Square in the about section on my profile if you wish.

Evil Square will not have a website or any social networking accounts (Google+, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) until I actually get a product out to the public. I made that mistake with Blue Bean Apps. You can, however, keep up with the person responsible for Evil Square, Chris Ramer (me), on his Google+ by clicking the link in my signature below.

I will not be hiring anyone for my first game. My first game will be done entirely by me and me alone.

Tell me what you think of this new change!

I think personally you are basically there with your first game. You should finish and publish. Going through that process is important then you can go work on your next game.

Swimmy was never going to get huge downloads cause of the crowded market it is in, so you should just get it out there.

Well, I wanted to finish Swimmy, but I can't hire a graphic designer to make more sprites for me, so I'm stuck. I want to make enough money to be able to hire a graphic designer or at least to buy royalty-free sprites/assets.

I'm still here. :p I've improved over the last time I made you sprites, I just can't animate. Eventually I will learn to animate, though. As I will need it in future projects with pixel art.

Hi'ya Silver Games! I didn't notice you changed your name and everything. :p

Anyways, I would still like to make the game I'm currently working on before I do Swimmy. I am having difficulty with getting PlayerPrefs to save a player's best time to an array containing 50 or 100 items. I will make a thread asking about this in a minute.

Swimmy is a more complex game than the one I am currently working on. It's a good idea to start small and grow bigger over time. Plus, figuring out how arrays work will come in handy a lot for Swimmy and future projects.

I have already made a playable first level. I would like to open up a thread for it later this week (once I get the array of scores worked out). So far, this game is looking a lot better than I thought it would! You'll see later this month! ;)

Noice! Yes a lot of the time first projects are for learning; not to be a real game.

I have an announcement to make to all Blue Bean Apps/Evil Squared fans/followers:

I need to take a break from game development for a while to focus on school. As the end of junior year creeps ever so closer, it is quickly getting harder to stay on track.

HOWEVER... When summer vacation rolls around, I will be all for game development. I plan to start development of Swimmy on June 13th (the last day of school is the 12th, but I want to watch Jurassic World that is out that same day :p). It would be great if I could get the game out there by the end of the break, which I feel is in the realm of possibility.

Swimmy will be developed using the brand new Unity 5!! Whoop! Whoop! Not only that, but Swimmy would be completely redone and remastered into a true masterpiece!

I might work a little bit here and there, but I really need to focus on school for now. I do not look forward to the finals... :(

If you'd like to suggest ideas for what you would like to see in the upcomming Swimmy, please tell me here!

Wow, it's been months since I've last posted anything! I apologize for keeping to myself for all this time, but it's not without good reason.

I have recently resumed work on Swimmy since it's summer vacation now. I'm not going to post much progress (if any at all...) until I am done with it and getting ready to publish it. I started this forum almost a year ago and since then I have been going all over the place with my life. So, I'm not making any promises that I'm not sure I can keep.

In the meantime, this forum will no longer be updated from here on out. I realize I still have the release date being four months ago, but there's no point in changing it now. I will be surprised if people are still watching this thread and even notice this final post.

I will say however that Swimmy is being developed using Unity 4.6.0f3 and will be done entirely by myself. I plan to work on it a lot over the summer, hoping to get it done before senior year rolls around come early September. Also, I am not taking any suggestions for Swimmy as I have made up my mind. As I come close to finishing the development, I will make a new thread for Swimmy mainly to gain some publicity and to get some thoughts and suggestions on it. Lastly, I don't like the name Evil Square, so I will make my noble return in the near future under a new identity that WILL be my OFFICIAL name.

    Thanks,
    -Chris

It's been a while since I've seen you, Whiteleaf! Haven't talked to you since January, I think.

I hope that as well! :) Now that school's out of the way for the meantime, I should have time to work on Swimmy for a bit and hopefully finish it.

This is my official Unity account now. Tell me if you like the logo!

I am very close to opening a brand new thread for the new and improved Swimmy. I might have it open in a week or two. I was hoping I could open it today, but I'm not quite ready yet. Well, Swimmy has come a LONG way. I actually have the entire gameplay done (making some small changes along the way). All that's left to do really is to add visual appeal and make sure I didn't mess anything else up.

I'm still not putting a strict release date out there just yet. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up if I don't come through with my plans. Here are some of the major changes that have happened since the old Swimmy:

    • You no longer move up and down like you used to. Now Swimmy meets physics 1.0: gravity!
    • Multiple colors of fish (purchasable with coins or some form of currency yet to be determined). Certain 'special' colors of fish will trigger special effects on the gameplay scene. For example, playing as the black fish will bring you to the gameplay scene with an inverted color pallette! I can honestly say that the inverted Swimmy looks AMAZING! I can't wait to show it off!
    • There is no scoreboard scene that you go to when you die. Instead, a pop up menu comes up with the scoreboard.
    • Settings menu allows you to adjust the volume and to delete your high score if need be. The high score deletion has not been set up yet and the volume changes do not save to PlayerPrefs, but this is on my to-do list.
    • You aren't going for the longest time anymore... you're going for the furthest distance. The distance is measured in meters.
    • A pause menu has been added to the gameplay scene. You can access the settings from there as well, although I might move the settings button to a designated spot in the gameplay scene if there's too much empty space.
    • More obstacles to dodge than just the standard boring old hooks. At the moment, I only have ship wrecks that spawn, but I would like to get things like coral, rocks, treasure chests that periodically open and close and possibly some jellyfish. However, due to the game being designed primarily for mobile devices, I have strict limitations as to how large the scene can be as it has to fit on the screen. Due to this limitation, it gets difficult to spawn multiple objects all at once when they're all colliding with one another as this causes considerable lag and can render the game unplayable. I hope I can make this work. At the moment with just the ships and the hooks, there is very slight lag that can mess you up at times, but I will work more on this.

Let me know what you think of the changes so far and if you're interested in seeing Swimmy soon! I will link to the new thread when it is made.

    Yes it will be!

I actually just got the currency set up, which is coins. Tomorrow I hope to set up the shop.

Do you buy the currency with real life money or do you earn it in-game?

Planned to be mostly in-game. They would randomly spawn around hooks, but there will be enough to afford all fish in a few hours of gameplay. Alternatively, I would like to have the option to buy either more coins or just buy the fish directly.
