Suggestions for package download improvement

    It would be really cool if Unity would finally provide a mechanism for specifying the asset download folder. My System SSD is filling up with 100s of Gigabytes of downloaded assets. This has been a request over the years, 2013 to be exact, here:

    but with assets growing into the Gigabyte sizes these days, I hope it will finally be implemented. I do know about the symbolic link suggestion, but that's not a solution.

    Another suggestion is an option to backup the existing files by simply renaming them instead of replacing them. It's not always guaranteed that the updated version of an asset works without problems, so having an automatic backup instead of having to backup manually would be preferred. The most optimal way however would be to allow users to download specific versions of an asset from the store.
