    Congrats on Version 1.0 Wes!
    Substance Painter is very robust and capable;
    Allegorithmic is very farseeing company. You guys made it again and shaped texture painting workflows into better form.
    Thanks for that!

    A bit of topic but wanted to ask; Is there any upgrade path for the ones that purchased B2M version 2 from Unity asset store?

    This looks really cool. Is this something that a relative beginner could use to make more professional looking models easier or is this something more geared for experts?

    I'm pretty new to this whole game development thing and the artistic side, especially texturing and all the various texture maps, is my weakest point. I don't mind spending a few bucks if it will save me a bunch of time and make things look a lot better. Currently I'm using Unity Pro (subscription), Blender, GIMP, Inkscape and Fuse in my pipeline. Would it be better to go with the Indie bundle or stick with Substance Painter? Thanks.

    Well the good thing is that you can download demos of Substance Painter and Designer as well as Bitmap2Material. I would also suggest to watch the various video tutorials Allegorithmic currently provides as starting point. If you have any questions left I am sure @wesm is more than happy to answer.

    Hi,
    Substance Painter is easier to use than Substance Designer. You can paint directly on the mesh and export bitmaps. As Thomas mentioned, with the indie pack, you get B2M. Its a standalone tool that allows you to simply input a source image and it will auto-generate maps such as normal, height, ambient occlusion, curvature etc. This makes it very easy to create textures that you need. You have control over how the maps are generated my simply changing the values and you can see updates in realtime. So if you are new to texturing, B2M can be very helpful.

    Cheers,

    Wes

    Took Substance Painter 1.0 for a spin on one of my assets for my current project. Wanted to get some rough looking/weathered/old/painted wood on this Table model of mine. I baked AO and Curvature maps in Designer and then took it to Painter. There, I took a good looking wood base and worked my way towards the look I wanted. Loving it (as I did before).

    How do I import a Fuse model to work on? I was going by this page here: http://forum.allegorithmic.com/index.php?topic=2272.0 I have a model exported as a fbx. I can select the mesh in new project and add all the texture maps. I can see the TextureSets section but the only thing in there is the DefaultMaterial. There is no reference to body, shorts, hair, etc. Thanks.

    Well it works with the OBJ file but not the FBX file. The OBJ file looks great in Substance Painter while it looks like a crappy low poly model in Blender. A DAE file looks much better in Blender than the OBJ file. These different file conversions are driving me bonkers.
