    Hello good people

I am building a game in in my Windows 10 PC and everything works great, no matter how many different builds I make (new builds in other folders, clean builds in the same folder etc), when I double click the exe

When I copy the folder/build to a Windows 11 PC, when I run it, it runs normally when I double click the exe, but after pc restarts (or sometimes if the game closes and is reponened) the game hangs without an error and in order to make it run normally again I need to rename the exe and data folder.

For example the first time its called game.exe and the data folder is called game_Data and it runs normally. When I restart the PC (or sometimes when the game closes and is reponened) in order for it to run normally and not hang, I need to rename it to game1.exe and game1_Data and then it runs normally

The player.log file in the c:\users\[user]\LocalLow\GameDirectory doesn't contain any errors or warnings.

One note on the Windows 11 setup, is that the game needs to start on windows start, sto there is a shortcut of the exe to the startup folder. It sometimes works and at random times (after a PC restart or after a game restart) it hangs.

Any ideas on how to debug such an issue? Any unity logs I need to check? Any Windows logs maybe? Any caches that may be causing issues?

    Thanks in advance

If the issue only occurs on the Windows 11 machine it's got to be something with the system, not with the app. Try disabling the virus scanner if you have one.

When you say "hang" you mean the app freezes and does not respond to input in the middle of play? Or won't start? Once it hangs, how do you close the app? Is the process still listed in Task Manager?

test also building simple empty .exe from your project,
or from new project, does that run normally?

windows event viewer might display some info also.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah sadly I don't have another Win11 PC to test this on, but yeah seems to be OS related.

When I say it hangs I mean that the game consists of two scenes, one preloader scene with a loading bar and the game scene. When the issue occurs the game is stuck in the preloader scene with the loading bar at 100%, with no errors or crashes, just stays there forever, and in the Task Manager it does not seem unresponsive or acting weird in CPU/Memory/GPU allocation. If I click on it it though while it's stuck I get the popup window that says app is not responding which prompts me to either wait or close the app

    Hello!

Could you also provide the crash logs here? Maybe we know of this issue and there is a report for this bug that you could track. But I could only check for that if you were to provide the Stack Trace.

That's the issue the game doesn't crash, so I don't have any crash/error logs and the only place I can check is the player.log in the persistent path of the application, which is without any issues

Anywhere else where I can find crash logs, app logs, game logs etc?

You can capture a dump file from the task manager by finding it in the details tab, right clicking it and press "Create dump file".
