Bug Strange Canvas size behavior in 2022.3.18 (HDRP)

    Following on from my issue with RenderTextures, I've noticed really odd behaviour with Canvases.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a brand new, HDRP project in 2022.3.18.
    2. In the default "OutdoorScene" scene, add a "Canvas" GameObject.
    3. Note the Canvas sizes to the chosen screen resolution - in this case, 1920 x 1080.
    4. Step 1 - NormalSizedCanvas.png
    5. Right-click the Canvas and add a Panel.
    6. Notice how everything suddenly shrinks down and becomes square.
    7. Step 2 - PanelAddedTinySize.png
    8. Double-click the Panel in the hierarchy, and note how you zoom in to the very square, tiny UI.
    9. Step 3 - PanelZoomed.png
    10. Enter run mode.
    11. The UI panel is displayed, but flickers constantly.
    Looking at the properties of the panel, it says its size is 32x32 - even though it's set to "Stretch" the full size of the canvas.

    Is this behaviour intentional? Or is it a bug? I didn't see this behaviour at all in 2022.3.16, before I upgraded.

    UPDATE: I've just installed 2022.3.17 and it's working exactly as expected. New projects in 2022.3.18 have all sorts of weird problems with Canvas and UI elements. Lucky I backed up, !

    I had the same bug, and changing to 2022.3.17 worked!

    Hey, sounds like you found a bug! Can you report it with some sample assets to help us investigate and fix it?

    I have this exact same problem, I sure hope they fix this soon.

    This happens on a clean install. It happened to me when I installed the new 2022.3.18 LTS. How do you report it?

    Update: Happens in 2023 Beta aswell

    @mroshaw acknowledged my post so I suppose they'll report it, please refrain from reporting duplicates if possible as this only slows down our work ;)

    But for future reference, inside Unity you report a bug through the Help > Report a Bug menu item!

    I have the same issue since I went to 2022.3.18f. When I add a RawImage in the canvas, it flickers and goes all over the place when I do different clicks in the hierarchy between 'Canvas' and 'RawImage'. Just weird.

    Same, it seems related to the Preview of the "UI Default Material" in combination with selecting an image component while having the game view open. Or at least that's how I can reproduce it reliably:



    Has anyone reported this as a bug already?
    Looking for a bugtracker id to follow.

    I'm so sorry, I didn't get around to raising this as a bug. Thanks _geo_ for doing so.

    I'm also seeing crazy behavior with Render Textures displayed through Images. Lots of flickering, RTs seem to ignore camera culling layers. Not sure if it's related.

    Currently having an issue with canvas jittering whenever it is selected in the hierarchy, and image textures outright not woking in HDRP.

    Same, whenever I hover my pointer over the scene the UI elements flicker. Not to mention if I try to click them (they would fade away randomly)

    I don't think anything will be done about it anytime soon, next major update maybe.

    Same issue, having a preview of the Default UI material in the inspector or having the image gameobject selected in the heirarchy is the simplest way to reproduce
