Strange animation keyframe interpolation?

I am editing motion-capture fbx data in Maya and then importing these into unity. Once in Unity, the keyframe data in the Animation window no longer show the usual transform attrs (Translate, Rotate, Scale) but rather, it shows a whole set of new attributes: Front-Back, Down-Up, Left-Right, Twist In-Out, Stretch?!

This set of attributes is extremely confusing and I have no clue how they work. For instance, ALL of the finger joints which used to simply rotate on the Y-axis now have their keyframe information on a "Stretched" attribute which looks nothing like the original rotation curve.

I'm on day 2 of relentlessly digging for documentation on this and I still haven't found any solutions. If someone can help me understand how the keyframes got interpreted like this and if you have any possible solutions it will really help me sleep tonight!
