    Hey all,

I'm starting a new project, which is first person.

I'm wondering if it's worth it for me to code my own player, or to just stick with the one that Unity provides.

I feel like it's pretty decent, but I don't like having a bunch of code in my project that I don't know like the back of my hand, yknow what I mean? I'd like to keep the project as clear of default assets as possible.

You think it's worth it to make my own custom player? It really only needs to have mouse look and wasd + jump + sprint.

you're asking a question that basically comes down to personal preference, or perhaps performance if you're making a really high end game for your target hardware where you need to squeeze out every last bit of optimization from your scripts... if you want to know how to make one, make one from the ground up. If you don't like trusting other people code without knowing it inside out, pull it apart and strip it down. If you're against a deadline and it's not killing your performance use the standard asset.... *shrugs* o_O

As @LeftyRighty said, it's up to you. It totally depends on the game your making and it's targeted platform.
