    Hello,

after I see there is a new Linux-Version of the unity-editor, I want to test it.

But I get a black screen of "recent". How can I solve it?

    I can confirm this behaviour.
    Unity Build #2016010601

    Lubuntu 15.10 64bit ( with all updates )
    i5 6600
    16GB RAM
    GTX750Ti ( nVidia prop drivers 358.16 )

    Deleting Unity folder from
    Code (CSharp):
    1. ~/.config/unity3d/
    doesn't help.

    Starting from terminal
    Code (CSharp):
    1. /opt/Unity/Editor/Unity %U
    gives nothing.

    -------EDIT-------
Found this thread with same problem:
    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/no-ui-fedora-22-fixed.378113/
    but I already have installed
    Code (CSharp):
    1. npm 1.4.21+ds-2

It worked for me too (ubuntu 14.04 LTS for 2 different PC : a new gamer one and a quite old one not for gamer ;) (2008) ).

I did remark that the only version that has not this bug is the first linux one 20150825. Any other version behaves like the 20160106 one : blocked with slaph screen and the black "recent" windows.

@babazookZ, are u sure that u gave the user rights to the full path of the folder; maybe u can try :
    sudo apt-get purge unity-editor; sudo dpkg -i unity-editor*20160106*.deb; sudo apt-get -f install;

Delete folder ( backup it before ):
If that doesn't help try running Unity from terminal:
maybe there will be some info.

From my experience, i had to start unity3d by command line using root, accept the warning and i got the screen correctly.
Logged in and created a new project.
I reinstalled Unity after that and worked with regular user but i think the issue was i was not logged in.
    so give it a try.

I had the same problem on Kubuntu 15.10 On 14.04 all worked fine. The solution with creating folder works for me

For me creating the '~/.local/share/unity3d/Packages' wasn't enough neither. I also had to install the 'npm' package which seems to be a new Unity dependency now.

Yes the npm package is not installed automatically when installing Unity, so You have to do it manually.
Some people said that lack of npm package gives the same behaviour.

EDIT: The DEB package has npm in dependencies, don't know about the Universal Installer (.sh )

I have created the Packages directory and verified that npm was already in my PATH, yet I still get the gray "recent" screen frozen with the latest build (unity-editor-5.4.0b21+20160609_amd64.deb):

    jorvis /opt/Unity/Editor $ mkdir -p ~/.local/share/unity3d/Packages
    jorvis /opt/Unity/Editor $ mkdir -p ~/.local/share/unity3d/Unity

    jorvis /opt/Unity/Editor $ which npm
    /usr/bin/npm

    http://i.imgur.com/3AjLw4w.png

UPDATE: Looking into my npm-debug.log and I found this:

    74 http GET https://registry.npmjs.org/unityeditor-cloud-hub.0.0.13.tgz
    75 http 404 https://registry.npmjs.org/unityeditor-collab-toolbar-0.0.42.tgz

So the problem is that unityeditor-collab-toolbar is not being found.

UPDATE2: I had to start Unity using 'sudo', ignore the warning and start anyway, then close it and start again with my regular user. Then the frozen screen went away.
