[RELEASED] StampIT! Collection - 4K heightmaps for stamping

I've been creating demos for several publishers recently and needed various kinds of terrains. I thought I'd extend these projects a bit further and create some more terrains and put them on the Asset Store for you guys in case you have use for this. I called it StampIT! Collection. Those heightmaps are compatible with the Unity Terrain Tools, Atlas, Gaia, Map Magic, etc, i. e. assets that support the processing of heightmaps.

In short: The StampIT! Collection is a set of high resolution 4K heightmaps which can be used for terrain stamping, i. e. to paint features and entire heightmaps on the Unity terrain. It should be a means to get you quickly started with terrain sculpting. Please note that textures aren't included, it's just the heightmap. Please also note that the terrain textures aren't included, this asset consists of heightmaps.

The collection will consist of individual assets as well as volumes which will be a grouping of some individual assets in order to give a discount.

Similar are in the free examples. But if anyone fancies exactly that one, let me know and I'll put it into the free examples as well.

 

Upon popular demand I added the heightmap from the above video into the free examples, Unity approved it today:

The update also includes examples of the upcoming Desert & Dunes as well as Rugged Rocks assets. Those are still pending review by Unity.

Do the stamps come with additional masks for splat painting?

Texture masks containing erosion or deposition data can be very useful since they can't be extracted from the heightmap easily.

I also see we have a cliff wall stamp, is this one seamless along the the cliff axis?

 

I considered it at first, but figured everyone would just modify their therrain anyway for fine adjustment, adding roads and what not, so I left additional masks rather to dedicated tools.

I toyed around with seamless cliffs, but ended up with not doing it because it would make the terrain look repetitive. One rather would use different cliffs and blend them together. On the other hand I prefer artistic freedom for the user, so I guess I'll consider adding tileable variations in an update.

 

Just tried a tileable version, of course the tile visibility depends pretty much on the angle of view. Here's 3 of the same stamped terrains aligned next to each other:



I guess I'll put that in an update.

What software are the stamps made in? maybe you could include the source files so that users can export additional features from it (thinking masks here)

 

Various. My favorite is World Creator. Some in World Creator 2022, some in the previuos version of it. Slight modifications in Photoshop. That's definitely worth considering.

Note about the Canyons: In case you need gradients for the Canyons in combination with MicroSplat's Global Texturing, you can easily create those from pictures on the web with my free tool Gradient Picker:

 

Sadly all are gone (top voucher needs crossing out as I just tried it but it's now invalid).

Very nice stamps Rowlan and great tip about using the Gradient Picker to source colours from a stock image. Inspirational, as always

 

After I posted the Canyons asset I got so much positive feedback today, maybe hold back a bit if you want to buy the Canyon stamps. I was told by several of you that they'd prefer the whole package. So I submitted 2. One is the collection Volume 2 for those who just want an individual collection and another is the Ultimate Collection. The Ultimate will contain all currently on the Unity Asset Store plus the future ones.

Release depends on how fast the Asset Store works, from the looks of it it'll be live in a week. I added the maximum discount of course, i. e. -50% for 2 weeks is the maximum that's possible.

Looking forward to picking this up when I get to messing with terrains for my current project. I don't feel like you can every have too many stamps to use, and it honestly feel like stamp packs is something that the store has been missing, especially given the popularity of all these stamp tools too.
