SpriteRenderer component using wrong path for Sprites-Default material

    The SpriteRenderer component appears to be pointing to the wrong location or material for the 'Sprites-Default' material. When you run the game the connection breaks and the sprite renders incorrectly.

    Manually selecting the material on the component points it to the correct location. It appears that the location of the Sprites-Default material was moved at some point between versions, from "Library/Unity Default Resources" to "Resources/unity_builtin_extra". Perhaps a default path in the component just needs to be updated.
