    Hi,

i can't find information about SpeedTree support in HDRP.
Are there some shaders available somewhere to get the trees work in HDRP !?

    Thanks !

Yeah, it's kind of blocking us at the moment. I guess it's on SpeedTree side to fix it but a little help would be appreciated. I wish there was a work around but the shader is kind of complicated

Yes, they said on their blog they look forward to working with Unity to develop HDRP and LWRP shaders in the future,
an estimated release date would be much appreciated.

It's the responsibility of SpeedTree company so you will have to talk to them. To the best of my knowledge, ST is simply waiting for HDRP to become popular and released before spending time on upgrading materials and such.

I hope they arent waiting for the popular part because we are considering using HDRP for our coming project and if speedtree isnt working, this will force us to use the default renderer.

I wouldnt worry about that and it sounds like there should be more info soon, they said the following on Tuesday:

"We'll have more news coming in the next few weeks about the integration and HDRP/LWRP support"

Awesome, can't wait to see how glorious PBR trees will look in HDRP.

    @Dannyoakes

    Hey Danny,

I'm testing SpeedTree 8 with HDRP (Unity 2018.3.7, HDRP 4.9). I've follow your tutorial on packing textures and setting materials. I've tested in on two projects, my main project and fresh test project.

I've noticed that there is some error with bark seams when using HDRP Lit shader. Some LOD variations have faces with visible seam on the whole face (they are actually black if the normal map is applied). I've noticed that it doesn't happen when using custom shader graph, based on Master Lit node.

I'm wondering why it happens only with base Lit shader and not with custom one which uses same master node.

Another little sign that a proper solution edges closer. Another piece of the jigsaw puzzle, rather than the final destination but I love to watch progress :)

This is very sexy news. The idea has now taken root that Unity's branching out ECS, at least if we go by trunk. I should take a leaf out of your book....

I dont think I can compete with the density of your punnable pipeline hooks.

I've been waiting for a shader since november 2018.... im annoyed as well. I have something that does the job but clearly not perfect in the meantime. It really needs to be fixed for 2019.3 cycle or .4

Why they should release it. They would loose the the subscription bonus.

Meantime i converted all trees to Blender and reimported with CTI. So they will work forever now. HDRP version of CTI is usable too. With GPU instancer they perform really great.
The placement is done in Blender too. So you have level design and trees stabil to fire to any game engine and to use in Blender in offline rendering too.
There is really no reason for such an big company to let people wait this long for an HDRP SG.

So in the newly released 2019.3 what is the speed tree v8 to unity workflow supposed to look like? Can I just export from speed tree v8 to HDRP 2019.3 or is there the typical jump thru hoops change this and that BS we typically have to deal with when unity and speed tree can't work together on this.

Anytime I need something I don't check the forums or unity blogs or docs I go right to the asset store see if some dev has come up with a fix or something better. I mean I love the community and the asset store but damm help us out here unity and get it together before unreal swallows you whole and we all have to be forced on the unreal train.

I should be able to export out some beautiful v8 speed tree trees use HDRP and terrain and all the lighting goodness of hdrp make something beautiful and show off what unity can do. Instead I spend way to much "figuring" it out then I'm to pissed off to create something.

Have you tried exporting from speedtree as fbx?

Wow! I did not know that Speedtree is such a complex thing to research!
Meanwhile, you can cancel the Subscription.
I am not out of harm to them, but on the other hand, it harms us. Themselves to blame!

ahhhh...well this says it all. Wish I came across this post earlier before researching all day...Very disappointing. What are most of you using for trees HDRP and implementing terrain features (wind-zones, scale, colours)?

So SpeedTree is still very much in development.
An alternative can be SpeedTree Cinema 8, and use it as a standard FBX with LOD for 140$?
