Whats a cheap, inexpensive sound editor with a few filters and the ability to cut and paste sounds around?

I quite like Bias Peak, but Audacity is free. I believe if you get a package that supports Audio Units, Mac OS X comes with a few already, and there are a bunch of free ones floating around the net. If you have Garageband, it might do in a pinch. I don't know much about its tools.

I use Soundtrack. It's only cheap if you were getting Final Cut anyway :)

Other than Audacity, there's a free edition of XO Wave (http://www.xowave.com). It looks very nice from the screenshots but I've not had a need to give it a spin yet.

    I really recommend Audacity:

Everyone seems to keep recommending other random stuff ... Audacity is really very good and pretty easy to use and runs on most anything.
