    Hey folks,

    I did a search online, watched a few yourtube videos, and searched these forums as best I could. I am unable to install Unity 2020.2.0f1. Every time I try I get an error that says "Installation Failed, Something went wrong installing Unity 2020.2.0f1"

    • I have tried other versions with the same error.
    • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the hub
    • I have 75GB of disk space (in fact that's the least of all my drives, they all have lots)
    • I can uninstall version just fine using the hub
    • I can manually add versions I've installed manually just fine
    • I can dig into the temp location that the hub downloads to and manually double click the install and it will install!
    • I have tried to run the hub as an admin
    • I reset the path where installs would go (C:\Program Files\Unity\Hub\Editor)
    • I logged out and tried it
    • I logged back in and tried it
    • I disconnected my personal license and tried it
    • I reconnected my personal license and tried it
    • I have tried to select NO modules
    • I have tried to select only the documentation module
    • I have tried to select the documentation and Windows Build Support (IL2CPP)

    But for some reason I cannot get the hub to install new versions. I do have 2020.1.17f1 installed as well as 2019.4.16f1, so it did work at one point.

    Does anyone have any other ideas on what I can try next?

    Got same problem. I wont install it manually since I need the sdk package included to my editor. Also the add button is not there when I manually download the editor.

    I have same issue with Unity 2020.3.0f1 with Unity Hub 2.4.3 on Mac. Downloading stoped at 99% percent.
    Regarding to the offline downloading, I installed the version 2020.2.2f1 and it appears on Unity Hub, but however I can't add modules through Unity Hub, again I have to download and install components separately.
    And since this appears frequently means Unity don't give a sh*t about it.

    When download components separately and install them, UnitySetup-Android-Support-for-Editor doesn't add SDK, NDK, and JDK.

    The only way I managed to install Unity 2020LTS through UnityHub was to FIRST install Unity 2019LTS with Visual Studio and then I could install Unity 2020LTS.

    Before this I also reinstalled Windows10 so everything was freshly installed.

    I had the sabe issue, it was solved by activating the license in the ->Preferences->License Management. Even using the free version, is required to activate the license or it will fail the installation.

    However, I am aware the same error can occurs if there is no enough space.

    I just had to reinstall Windows and before that I would get maybe 95% of the time install failed. On fresh Windows 10 same thing. Going to have to dl the editor the 'old-fashioned' way. It would be nice if Unity Hub would give us developers an error message with more verbosity. The current error feels like a huge slap in the face.

    I had the same issue. Tried many suggestions I could find on the internet, none of them solved the issue.
    • Reinstalled unity hub and activated new license key.
    • Cleared Temp folders
    • Deleted all unity software.
    • Updated windows.
    • Turned off windows threat protection and network protection.
    • Tried installing without including additional modules
    Finally uninstalled Unity hub through IObit uninstaller and the issue is fixed. IObit removes prefetch files related to Unity hub and that solves it.

    I dont have soloution but something you could try.
    1) Rename your hostfile, C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
    Try install Unity again.
    2) Some ISP (DNS) have adult block, disable it.
    Try install Unity again.
    3) Disable what ever Virus/Mailware software.
    Try install unity again.
    4) Create Vitual Machine (ie VirtualBox) and get current Windows 10 ISO file from Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10. Make a VM of Windows 10 and try install Unity in the VM. This might sound strang thing to do, but if this dosn't work then there most likly being block by Internet connection.

    This is little bit off subject at hand, but anyway.
    Am I Pro at Unity, nope. Can you do C# 8.0, sort of, at moment you have to be using Unity 2020.2. Now Unity is C# but it does things it own way.

    Okay, so the first issue is this incredibly vague error message that tells you absolutely nothing about what actually went wrong. Google this message and I am sure you will find dozens if not hundreds of people having this issue and just as many suggestions on how to fix this. This of course makes perfect sense because this is a generic blanket error message.

    The correct thing to do here is to first complain about the horrible UI of what's supposed to be a coding tool that goes to this level of effort to insulate its users from error messages, and then second find out more about the actual root cause of the problem before attempting further troubleshooting. Anyone who just sees this single information-free message and starts listing a bunch of standard troubleshooting steps is an idiot and has no business anywhere near anything resembling a programming language.

    In furtherance of finding out what the actual problem is, a good first step is the logs. Unity Hub makes it not too difficult to find these, though they do bury it in the interface. To get to your logs, click on your profile in the top right, click on Troubleshooting, and then click on Open Log Folder. Hopefully, this will open a folder with at least one log file in it that will hopefully contain some useful information, generally towards the end. In my case, the end of my
    info-log.json
    file looked like this:
    Code (JavaScript):
    1. {"moduleName":"DownloadRequest","level":"warn","message":"[ 'Something went wrong while downloading https://download.unity3d.com/download_unity/71691879b7f5/MacEditorInstaller/Unity-2020.3.13f1.pkg Error: ESOCKETTIMEDOUT Error: ESOCKETTIMEDOUT\\n    at ClientRequest.<anonymous> (/Applications/Coding/Unity Hub.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar/node_modules/request/request.js:816:19)\\n    at Object.onceWrapper (events.js:282:20)\\n    at ClientRequest.emit (events.js:194:13)\\n    at ClientRequest.EventEmitter.emit (domain.js:469:20)\\n    at TLSSocket.emitRequestTimeout (_http_client.js:673:40)\\n    at Object.onceWrapper (events.js:282:20)\\n    at TLSSocket.emit (events.js:194:13)\\n    at TLSSocket.EventEmitter.emit (domain.js:469:20)\\n    at TLSSocket.Socket._onTimeout (net.js:429:8)\\n    at listOnTimeout (internal/timers.js:535:17)' ]","timestamp":"2021-07-05T10:21:22.835Z"}

    3. {"moduleName":"EditorDownloader","level":"info","message":"[ 'Editor Downloader 2020.3.13f1: end event for editor' ]","timestamp":"2021-07-05T10:21:22.836Z"}
    4. {"moduleName":"EditorDownloader","level":"info","message":"[ 'Editor Download 2020.3.13f1: Finished' ]","timestamp":"2021-07-05T10:21:22.836Z"}
    5. {"moduleName":"DownloadManager","level":"info","message":"[ 'download ended with status: 3 /var/folders/0c/vb94d7vs0sj1f1y7qbv29lkc0000gn/T/unityhub-c0401010-dd78-11eb-8261-29a1df795f22/Unity-2020.3.13f1.pkg' ]","timestamp":"2021-07-05T10:21:22.842Z"}
    6. {"moduleName":"ApplicationRouteHelper","level":"info","message":"[ 'hadOnboarding is false' ]","timestamp":"2021-07-05T10:31:00.112Z"}
    This looks like the problem was the download being stopped by a network error—my wifi is not the greatest here. So the second issue is that Unity Hub's installer can apparently have an install totally screwed up by a single transient network error and has no code to attempt auto-recovery or for that matter to pause and resume. That would probably be a good thing to include in your user-friendly front-end to download and install several gigabytes of package files over who knows what kind of internet connection in who knows what conditions. I will re-try this and hopefully my internet will be more cooperative this time. If it continues to fail, I may have to download the requisite files manually.

    TL;DR, this error message is useless. Read the logs to actually figure out what the actual problem is.

    Nothing here worked. Can not install latest version. Keep getting timeout error at the end. Increased timeout durations from the config file but it didn't work as well.

    I have found a solution that works for 2020.3.14f1(may work for others as well) on linux. Change the unity hub to beta(3.0) version in the settings, restart the hub, then download the editor without modules. Then change back the editor to the current release (2.45 i think), locate the editor, press the 3 dots and add the modules you'd like to use.

    The issue is still present in late July of 2021. Anyways, switching to Beta 3 did help. Just fiddle inside the gear symbol a bit, switch channel to beta and in a few seconds a message at the top right will offer the Beta 3 client. "Restart and install" and then you can finally download Unity. Thanks a lot!

    I've switched to the Unity Hub 3 Beta in an attempt to install Unity 2021.1.17, which gives the classic "somewhen went wrong" error with Unity Hub 2.4.5. With Unity Hub 3 Beta I'm being forced to download Visual Studio Community, even though I don't want or need it. The option is selected at the editor download and can't be turned off. Anyone know a solution to this?

    Loosing clients due to issues like these.. unfortunate.

    Some things seem handled extremely unprofessionally (like the UI notification 'something went wrong' - some of my clients are not even IT-savvy and they see the utter lack of due diligence/care that went into the UIX/notif.. makes me feel like a fool trying to defend the undefendable.. joke's on me i guess? ;-)

    The following process worked for me with Unity 2021.1.17f1 with Ubuntu 18.04:
    (after failing to install 2021.1.17f1 with Unity Hub 2.4.5)
    • Switched to Unity Hub 3.04 Beta (through Advanced Options in the Unity Hub mode)
    • Installed 2021.1.17f1 for Linux and Android with modules.
      • Everything but Android Build was installed successfully
    • Switched back to Unity Hub 2.4.5 (production channel)
    • Installed Android Build successfully

    Same issue today on macOS BIg Sur 11.5.2. Unity Hub Beta 3.

    Noticed I wasn't logged in. I logged in, and verified I have an active Personal license, but still just get "Something went wrong" when trying to install 2020.3.18f1 LTS.

    Additionally, why am I forced to install Visual Studio for Mac when
    A. I already have it from previous installs of Unity Editor.
    B. VS for Mac is utter garbage compared to VS Code anyway. VS for Mac cant be open for more than a couple of hours before its auto-completion just stops working. Not to mention it's slooooooowwwww

    Additionally additionally, why is only the *latest* LTS offered as a download through the Hub? If I want to work on a project on a different computer, I install Unity and then I have to wait over an hour and a half for the project to "upgrade" itself to a new version. At this point, I'm writing my own engine from now on.
