I just discovered this program literally today, so outside of what I've been able to read about it I know nothing about the program. Basically I've never really done any sort of game programming before, but I'm pretty good at watching instructional videos and working through it on my own, so that's not my main concern.

Mostly I'm interested in if the free version will do what I need it to do. The game I'm looking at doing is a turn based game, and I have no need for any sort of physics involved or even extremely high level graphics. However, I do plan on having a fairly extensive online community created for the game allowing people to play against their friends as well as have a leader board and maybe even some sort of world map area control type element. So basically does the free version offer all of that or is the paid version required to do that?

Also a side note, mostly out of curiosity than actual concern of having to worry about it, but for whatever reason if someone was to make a game using the free version and end up making more money that 100K what would happen then? Would they just have to pay for the pro version from there on out or something down those lines?

Yes you can use the free version for that.
No you can earn as much as you want with the free version.

The pro version only gives extra graphic features (like shadows and image effects) and debugging tools(like the profiler)

Yes, the free version can use networking (although I wouldn't recommend the built-in networking until they update it in Unity 5, for now I would recommend Photon).\

    From the EULA:
As long as you don't make more than $100,000 from your game, you can use Unity free. If you go over they can take legal action I think. Ether way if your making $100,000 you can pay for Pro anyway.

The differences between free and pro are listed here:

Honestly, if you don't know how to code, go learn to code first. I spent 2 years learning Java for Minecraft modding through TheNewBoston's Java tutorials. You don't have to spend that long, but at least learn something like Java, C#, etc. Don't think you'll be able to build your whole game on watching tutorials and following there code. You won't understand what each part does, and like a bunch of people on the forums you'll be posting for help and almost every feature in your game. Even then people here won't help with every single problem. Not to mention using different scripts from different tutorials will cause script compatibility problems, performance problems, etc.

To make it extra-clear for you, there are no royalties when using Unity Free or Pro. So once you make 100k with Unity free, you're required to buy Unity pro. The end. No royalties, unlike some other engines.
