    Platform: Arch Linux x64
Affected Desktop Environments: GNOME, KDE, Budgie, MATE, i3 (Seemingly all)
    Unity Versions Tested:
    5.5.0xp1
    5.6.0xb3

    Symptoms:
When opening a project, everything seems to work, but the Unity Editor application menu is entirely missing (see screenshot). (I assume it has not been relocated or removed in recent updates?)

There are no other issues or errors except for one regarding the Android Oculus Aduio Spatializer plugin having been built? for the wrong architecture.

    (Failed) Attempts to Resolve Issue:
    - Removed ~/.config/unity3d/Unity (to reset configuration) - No Effect
    - Removed ~/.local/share/unity3d (to reset configuration) - No Effect
    - Run Unity with -no-throttle-updates - No Effect

    Screenshot:

    Additional Notes:
    - These were all installed in the home partition by way of the official install script. Installing from the AUR failed due to insufficient space in the root partition.

Good luck! Great work on the Linux Editor, y'all are the best.

Solved! It turns out an application I installed from the AUR pulled in unity-gtk-module-standalone-bzr (a package that patches GTK to support Unity (the Desktop Environment)'s global menu which, I suppose, caused Unity3d to think it was running under the Unity DE, and therefore hide its menu.

So, for future reference if anyone has this issue, make sure you don't have any GTK patches installed for the Unity Desktop Environment if you're not using it.

P.S. Having a conflict between two things named "Unity" is confusing.

I have the same problem, but I'm in Ubuntu 20.04, and I don't seem to have any similarly-named package:

The crazy part is, the first time the editor opened, the menus were there. Now they're not. :(

Remove appmenu-gtk-module if you have it installed
