Question Smoothing switches between multiple animations

I have a few movement states that transition into a sub-state machine that controls attack animation combos. The sub-state has an empty router state that decides where to move next, plays the animation, then transitions to a new empty animation to transition back. It works perfectly and simplified everything, but the animations don’t sync perfectly so there’s some snapping when one ends and the next begins. I had to do it this way because my character controller is a state machine, so I have to transition out of the state before re-entering a new attack— the blank state routes the transition based on the time since the last attack.

Is there a way to smooth the transition between two animations without needing to directly transition from one to the next?

I tried using an animation layer, and it may just be my inexperience with them, but it messed up some of my more acrobatic animations.
