Smart Sprite?

Is this setup to basically just draw the border texture at the angle of the border? I'd love something like this that could work with pixel art but at that point just rotating the texture is rather jarring.

 

Will we be able to create/modify those during runtime? (Modify the shape, add points, add a curve, modify the textures?)
Will we be able to modify particular border textures ?
(In that screenshot, i can see textures are chosen using angles; if there is six borders, with the same angle, can i chose to have grass on borders having that angle by default, but for one of those six only, make it have rocks instead? )

Will it be possible to cut holes inside the smart sprite ? (Like creating a triangular shaped polygon in the middle of it, and have the smart sprite digging a triangular hole, with borders ?)

Will it be possible to disassemble those into multiple meshes // Combine those into one mesh?

If all those things are possible, will it be done directly using the SmartSprite class methods directly, or will it needs other already existing methods?

Is there already somewhere a complete description of that feature ?

the Smart-Sprite feature is nowhere to find in the official Unity Roadmap. It's not dropped, is it?

 

The whole unity roadmap is dropped.
There was a roadmap for 2018 but its not on the roadmap site anymore.
Don't know why. I'm sure it will come back again.

there was a roadmap for unity 2018 with a few items, that was online for a couple of days, that will return at some point.

 

Out of curiosity, is someone working on this full time or is it more of a side thing?

Seriously, look at the roadmap. If it's not listed there with an ETA then there is no ETA.
