    Hi,
I had bought a lot of large laptops with gaming potential and nice screens but recently I realized that if I programmed on the train to work I can get an extra 1 to 2 hours of work in on gaming development per day. The large laptops however don't fit on my lap when seated on the train, so I was wondering if anyone has had success with development of 3d games in unity on a smaller laptop and which ones you would recommend?

I use a MacBook Air 11 for doing game development on the go. I mainly make 2D games though.

It depends on your game, obviously, but I currently use a 2016 13" MacBook Pro to develop a 3D iOS and Android game and it works very well.

Razer Blade, Dell XPS 13 are really popular. Also the Asus Zenbook 3 is out there if portability is most important.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. Currently I'm using a generic $600 2 in 1 Asus laptop along with a custom-built PC, but there's nothing too special about it.

Acer Aspire E15 (specifically this one). $500 and is more than enough to run Unity for most games.

    Hi,
I'm still using a 4 year old laptop (asus K93SM) and it works very fine... unless you have to compute lightmaps !
Just add a SSD and some extra RAM.
So, it will depend on what you want to create.

I use a Surface these days. For use on public transport I'd suggest something with a rigid hinge for the screen, but performance wise it's plenty as a secondary dev machine. That said, I'm happy developing with a small viewport and low frame rate, and mileage will also vary depending on your game.
