I tried bryce the other day and was very disapointed at the lack of options. So I found a free alternative called Terragen. There seem to be many options for your render and you can make skybox's with it. After palying around with it for a few minutes I could make some cool stuff. However after looking at the gallery I was really impressed. Definatly worth checking out. The only problem is it still doesnt end my search for a good way to make space skyboxes. I can pull them off pretty well in photoshop but there not perfect.

Thanks Bill for the heads up on Terragen. It looks really perfect for Sky Boxes. Really slow though... I'm still rendering out my first one 30 minutes later.

Anyone else interested in a really high quality (and free!) Sky Box creator should check this out. Here's a link to the Terragen script that spits out the 6 Sky Box images automatically.

Terragen is only free for personal use. That always turns me off. And if I read correctly, it won't be free once it goes ver 1.0.

Thought this was really cool for making and customizing a sky box http://skypaint.com/ , but it's only for PC. Does anyone know of something like this for mac? Maybe I will just use my wifes laptop. :)

Here is a tutorial for getting skyboxes out of bryce.

    http://www.rooms3d.com.sg/CoolTryFiles/skyboxestextures.html

I find bryce very good for skyboxes, though it would be niice to have an auto skybox feature. One trick is to set up a scene with the camera positions keyframed in. Then it's just one click.

    Cheers
