Skinned Mesh Renderer appears lighter / white / washed out

    I've imported a model from 3Ds Max, part of which has a skin modifier. In Unity the skinned part looks a lot brighter than the rest of the model, even though they share the same material.

    I've attached a screenshot. The two blue objects have the exact same material, but the lower object with the Skinned Mesh Renderer is lighter.

    I've tried every combination of FBX export settings and Unity Import settings that I can find.

    Has anyone else experienced this issue?
