Assets Skeleton army generator

    Hi there!
    This is Goblin Workshop first post here at Unity Forum, we are currently developing a solution for generating realistic skeleton creatures that will include different armor combinations, LODs and dismemberment.

    We are especially curious if you would be interested on standalone 3d models as well, there has been some talk on providing self contained assets with specific roles and visual directions, like skeleton warrior, wizard and so on. It´s interesting for us to learn how much time we should spend on the generator in case the preference is actually on the models themselves, since we are a small team we will focus on what most of the people really want.

    Also we would love to know what type of armors / roles you would like us to provide, the first armor set is based on quilted armor.

    Looks awesome!
    I think for armor you should certainly do an knight/heavy armor version for use as a dungeon boss/miniboss. putting large bits of plate armor on the model will give them a larger and more threatening silhouette without you having to change the base skeleton model. Plate armor is also great because you can remove bits.

    If I would offer one criticism it's that the quilted material on the skeleton is a little too even. I feel like the bottom of the outfit should be dirtier, as should the texture around the holes. Would just help to break it up a little.

    I'm interested in the generator especially, but stand alone models are also great.
    How soon can we purchase some of these?

    Also, do you have any with some skin, muscle, hair or organs still intact?

    Plate armor is definitely the next item on our checklist. Considering the texturing feedback, we really apreciate it and we will update the asset :)

    First standalone asset should be sent for approval at this weekend, not sure how long it could take before reaching AssetStore though. After finishing the skeleton army generator we will be working on a full Zombie solution that includes dynamic local damage, not sure if that´s close to what you´ve mentioned concerning skin, muscles and organs.
    Concerning the generator, we are still weighting if it´s worth launching it earlier on with 2 or 3 armor sets for a lower price and keep adding more assets and raising the price later on, as a way to kickstart the solution and receive more feedback or wait until we´ve got more content to include.

    Thanks for the update. The Zombie solution sounds just about right!

    I typically like the early access approach, because it helps get an appreciation for where an asset is going, as well as the nice price point it comes with ;)

    Hi there Bostvic! Heres a small update on the texture work for this armor set, hope it´s heading the right direction.
    Final textures will all be provided at 4k following PBR metallic standard, will also be packing for Unity 2018 HDRP.

    We´ve improved both glove and boot texture and did some small changes on glove geometry, we are getting very close on packing this first armor set.

    We´ve been working super hard on getting a very high quality asset pack for you guys! This is the Skeleton Warrior asset, the first pack we will be uploading for AssetStore, this is a standalone Skeleton that provides high flexibility, it has 4 LODs for both the base skeleton mesh and armor, 3 different body texture sets (standard, dirt and blood) all 4K and also included a bone axe (also 4k separated textures), model is fully rigged having Mecanim retargetting in mind, we include a simple but powerful script that improves scapula and Patella bones posing as well as two 3d model files, one with body and armor as separated skinnedMeshRendereres and one with body and each armor piece as a separated render, for full armor customization / combination. We will follow the same standard on the next Skeleton packs, this means that their armor parts, texture sets and weapons are interchangeable.

    Hi there!
    We´ve been working on our second skeleton creature, this time it´s a necromancer archetype. We´ve made a concept sculpt of our current idea for a necromancer but since we are still on concepting stage for this asset, we would love to hear from you guys what you would like to see.


    Also, if you have any complains or feedback for the Skeleton Warrior, please let us know, we are looking forward estabilishing a strong dialog between our team and the community here.

    Looks great. What's the polycount? Does it have LODs? Just asking because it looks pretty heavy what with all the deatail in the hands, teeth, chains, toes, spine.....

    We provide 4 LODs for our Skeleton Warrior pack:

    Skeleton warrior body mesh
    LOD0 - ~24k verts ~37k tris
    LOD1 - ~13k verts ~18k tris
    LOD2 - ~11k verts ~15k tris
    LOD3 - ~8k verts ~9k tris

    Skeleton warrior armor mesh
    LOD0 - ~7k verts ~13k tris
    LOD1 - ~4k verts ~7k tris
    LOD2 - ~3k verts ~5k tris
    LOD3 - ~2k verts ~3k tris

    Bone Axe mesh
    LOD0 - ~1.3k verts ~1.8k tris
    LOD1 - ~1.0k verts ~1.3k tris
    LOD2 - ~0.7k verts ~0.9k tris
    LOD3 - ~0.4k verts ~0.5k tris

    We also include two variatons, one with 2 Skinned Meshes (Body and armor), and one with 8 skinned meshes (each armor part and body), this covers for both flexibility and performance.

    Here´s a preview concerning performance:


    Those are running on a i7 3.6GHz / GTX 960, you can expect even better performance on new computers. We do have a lot of detail on this model, as shown on image below, but at the same time we´ve spend a lot of time making sure this runs really well, LOD1,2 and 3 should run at stable frame rate even on high end mobile devices.



    Concerning the necromancer model, that one is still on concept stage, but we will do our best to keep both quality and performance at focus.

    Hi there! We´ve made progress on the Fire Skeleton shader and VFX, here´s how it´s looking We´ve managed to include some inertia to the flames so it looks more interesting when the character is moving. We will add some secondary VFXs and start packing for AssetStore. Cheers!

    We are currently not providing custom animations together with the standalone packs, we do plan on having animations included on a bundle, but there´s no ETA for that yet. Both Skeleton Warrior and Fire Skeleton are fully designed and set for Mecanim humanoid standard and will work perfectly with retargeted animations.
