I'm not sure what I can import and use into Unity, can I only use the unity asset store?

I'm looking for sprites, character animations similar to Stone Shard for a game I am working on. I just don't know of all of the places I can go and download free/placeholder or even paid gaming art/animations.

What are some of the best sites?

You can use anything you have license to use, which is in a format Unity can import. On any site you use, check the license the assets are published under.

The Asset Store is just the easiest, since everything there is already known to be in a format Unity understands and the Asset Store license is fairly broad, so is potentially less work on your part. There's a good amount of free stuff there too.
