    Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure many Singaporeans are interested in creating their own video game. Well, that interest just might become reality.

I have recently sought out MAGES Institute of Excellence to ask to join a 3D software course on Unity to learn programming and design. It's original price was a bit too expensive for my team ($3000+ Singapore dollars), so we tried to discuss it. The Institute told us they could negotiate it down to $588 Sing if we could round up 8-10 people to join us in the course. I assume this was firstly to make it somewhat worthwhile to host, as well as to ensure that we can have a special course to ourselves. We currently have 6 people, and it'd be great if anyone on here could join us in taking this lessons. Here is the information:

    Date: 15-20th December, 2014
    Duration: 10am-2.30pm daily
Venue: MAGES Institute of Excellence, near Somerset MRT
    Price: $588 (near 70%off)

    Course Coverage:
    · Introduction to UNITY and Game Development

    · Creating the Game World & Virtual Environment

    · Using and Creating Prefabs to develop 3D Games

    · Game Development using C# and Java Script Programming (at least 2 Types of game)

    · Game Testing & Implementation

Please contact me at morrowlion@gmail.com if interested, I reply fairly quickly to emails and will return to you within the day. You may also contact me about any questions regarding this course. Looking forward to seeing yall there!

Everything can be learned online for free. Haven't you read the thread you necroposted? This course is not worth money.

Especially if the course provider is willing to drop the price by 80%.

Firstly, the question regarding the course on the other thread was: Was it worth it for 3000+?
No, it definitely was not. Which is why I am posting here with a cheaper alternative. The course teaches almost exactly the same thing except at near 70% off the price stated on the website. The person only agreed to this price, ofc, if we could get the 8 person team, so that they could cover their costs.

Secondly, I think the question of whether the course is worth it is much dependent on the user. It's very useful for me because I am learning along with a team of people taking the course and it is more efficient to learn in one location, with all the facilities needed so we are able to work together. Learning online is very difficult for those of us in the team as not all of us have stable wifi, decent computers to use Unity with and we will all be learning at different paces, making it difficult to coordinate. Also, we can ask the teacher if we have any questions right away :)

Thirdly in Singapore, there are pretty few people who pursue game development. The course is a great opportunity for us to meet each other and perhaps embark on future projects together.

Unity will run off of practically anything and there are a lot of developers on these forums using Intel HD for their work.

Bro, seriously you can learn all these on youtube one.

My question to you, would be if the participants already know some sort of programming language? That would be key.
If not, I would suggest picking up something like Processing to get your feet wet with programming, once you are comfortable with then move on to your game engine of choice.

Once you learn one language - the keypoint here is not to learn a particular language, but gain skills such as understanding how to control the flow of the program, classes, etc. Once you understand this, it will not be too difficult to pick up other imperative languages.

I'm in the camp of don't waste your money, unless it's a masterclass by some well regarded person, you can defo learn all these kinda stuff online. If you really need to spend some money, I would suggest going to https://www.packtpub.com/ and get one of their unity introduction books.

I'm a local developer in Singapore.
If you really want to there are government (WSQ) funding you can get for their courses. But I've been to their place and seen their program. I was say forget about any of their courses (Unity, modeling etc), Its more or less not worth your money. You are better of learning online.

Btw, I've been in game dev for 10 years, worked with Unity for the past 5 years since v2.5 and currently work at a local university occasionally teaching the students Unity. If you guys really want to and can come down to my university, drop me a message and I'll give you guys a crash course on Unity and answer any questions you may have.

    Cheers

There are actually plenty of Unity developers in Singapore, the government is heavily backing games development.

Are you aware of the Games Solution Centre? It’s housed in the government’s start-up centre in Mediapolis. They have monthly events, free training, networking events and seminars. It’s all very Unity-focused and Sony Japan and Unity Singapore have both presented there recently. They also run free workshops in conjunction with Nanyang Polytechnic (e.g. a recent hands-on session with the PS4).

You should also join our Unity Singapore Facebook group. :)
