    Play it here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/BryceSummer/sine-rider

Sine Rider is a racing style game with a focus on music. Its my first published project with Unity3D(I am primarily a Flash developer) and I must say I really enjoyed using Unity, the engine is absolutely amazing!

    Heres some screenshots:

I'd really like feedback on this game, a lot of time, effort, and sleepless nights went into it... Also, if you have a Kongregate account I'd really appreciate it if you gave it a rating of what you feel it deserves, the game was released two days ago and has since then been buried under a mountain of other new games on Kong because it hasn't gotten enough ratings to get out of "judgement".

    Thank you for your time.

Hey Bryce, I think its a great looking game and could be a good fit for Kong, if you can sort out the handling. It's too easy to get stuck to the walls and bounce side to side and not stay on the sound wave.

I understand that practice makes perfect, but with Kongregate, you only get 1 shot and the harder it is to master immediately, the worse it will do. You are better off introducing an easy and hard mode, where in easy, the handling is much softer and easier to stay on the wave.

Very finicky game players on Kong.

Edit: I also think your first track is too long. Even though its marked as short, I found it too long to on first play.

All of this is of course just one mans opinion :) Hopefully you will get more feedback from others here too.

    Very nice game!!!

I would just capture the mouse and have the steering done with mouselook, it's too finicky as it is right now, and very hard to stay on track, it doesn't help that you kinda hide the tracks turns sometimes =p

Ahh, I hadn't thought about the handling being much of an issue... Thanks for raising your concerns, I'll look into tweaking it to make it more forgiving.

Also, capturing the mouse position and steering towards that is a good idea too.

Interesting point that the first track might be too long -- I was worried it was too short, hah.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I agree handling is a problem. I played it, ended up smashing from side to side. The players at Kong are so tempremental!

I'm on a pretty slow computer at work right now as I imagine quite a few casual internet gamers are as well. The whole webpage froze up and lagged the system when the game was loading. After a few minutes I gave up. From what I saw from your screenshots though, it looks really nice. You should try to post a downloadable exe on some indie freebee portals.

    Great game!

Dunno how Kongregate works (if you earn money or whatever) but I actually believe that you should sell this (as a lot of indie devs do) on Steam, it has a great potential, it's polished, it's nice.

The game is entered into a music-based game contest Kongregate is having currently. I was thinking that I might sell an HD standalone version or something with more features.

I've noticed that happening sometimes when Kongregate displays one specific flash ad, it actually crashes my browser... I'm not sure if this is whats happening here though as you mentioned your on a slow computer. The lowest system I've tested the game on is a 1.9ghz dual core laptop with 2GB of RAM, and it runs at a playable(although not ideal) framerate on the lowest quality settings.

Firstly I just joined 1 minute ago and checking out the site but I love the Artwork and will try to get to play the game on my G4 powerbook(please MCP in the sky).
However got to ask you the obvious question are/were you into Bryce? I cut my teeth on Bryce 4 and now work with C4D and do the skills gained from working with Bryce/ C4D enable one to master Unity quicker than a complete beginner to 3D.
At this very moment I am still waiting for the Unity Download to end so know absolutely zilch about what is in store for me with this Unity thing
Or is it much more about coding etc.
Hope this is a question not too out of line.
Ah the Download has just finished!
    Thanks,

Haha, Bryce is my name... Has nothing to do with the software Bryce(Although I can see why someone would be confused).

With that said, Unity was easy enough to get started with. If you're familiar with 3D programs I'd imagine it would be even easier as you need to use 3D modelling software to make your levels/props/etc(I used Blender to make the tracks, the ship was a stock model purchased from www.turbosquid.com). There is coding involved too of course, but you can take your pick of c#/Boo/Javascript (I prefer c#)... The way Unity handles things its really easy once you've got the basic concepts down to just come up with an idea and have it roughly implemented within an hour or two, then sit back and go "Wow, that was easy."

A nice start Bryce, the concept is quite unique and the game looks pretty good overall. Like Seon mentioned, the controls need a bit of work - it's very easy to end up bouncing side to side. It also feels like the background to the track is a little plain, but I guess that's minor as most of the time you have to focus on where your driving to keep on the line.

This happens a lot on portal sites. It's easy to write horribly memory inefficient system hog flash ads, and when mixed with other content on the same page (flash game, unity game, adobe shockwave game) often you get stutters and performance spikes, and sometimes crashes. Not much you can do about this to be honest

Yeah, thats what I figured... Its never been an issue for me in the past on Kongregate, but all my previous games were less resource intensive and flash-based. I guess that's the price you pay with using more flashy(or rather unity-y) effects.

Good idea, once I get the more pressing issues(like the handling) fixed, I'll look into adding gamepad/joystick support.... It shouldn't be hard at all actually.

if you want to sell it, as a standalone, check out Desura/IndieDB, they are a lot more forgiving than steam, and the game looks good, you are certain to be able to sell it...

Thanks for the tip Kanly, I'll check them out! I think there would be a good demand for an inexpensive standalone since it looks so much better in fullscreen.

Great Game,Maybe you can add rotation control with mouse or a gamepad/joystick support. It will be much easier to control
I rated 5 in kongregate.com for great work and looking forward to it's release in standalone,Have you consider selling it in app store or android market after standalone version?

I think it played very well in general, some improvements could potentially be made to steering as previously said but overall a fairly enjoyable experience. Another suggestion I would have is cleaning up the GUI, it all seemed rather cramped to me. I did love what you did with the upgrades though that was a interesting touch.

i could see this game working pretty well with accelerometer controls on iOS/Android.
