I'm a little new to this so I'm not sure where exactly where to start.

I want to create a cloth curtain that is able to fold up when the curtains are opened.

    Like so:

My first guess was that I could somehow move individual constraints in the cloth manually in script, moving them closer together, and creating the illusion that the cloth is folded up.

But as far as I can tell, there's no such visible functionality available out of the box.

Would this even be possible given how cloth simulation is set up in Unity?

skinned animation / blendshape by far the most realistic if it doesn't need to be interactive by other physics.

Well. I'm not at a point right now where I can safely say that it won't be needed, but I can imagine it to be useful to be able to interact with the curtains. Walking through them and such. Plus, it would be great to be able to stack some objects in front or underneath that collide with the curtains.

But I see where you're getting at. It's definitely on the list of possibilities to go the model/animation route if the cloth one turns out to be futile.
