I'm a little embarrassed to be asking this, but I just don't understand what constitutes the "shuriken" particle system?

Do Unity free version users have the "shuriken" particle system? How do I know if I'm using the legacy particle system, or the shuriken one? I've never understood shuriken.

The reason I'm asking this now, is because I see an asset on the asset store I might like to purchase, but because I'm using Unity free version, I'm not sure if it will work for me -- or if I have the shuriken system.

Thanks for any insight on how I can know if I have/can make use of the shuriken particle system.

Shuriken is the name of the particle system tool. It has all of the features of the legacy particle system plus newer stuff. Don't use the legacy particle system.

Both free and pro versions use Shuriken.

The assets available on the asset store will work as long as your version of Unity matches or is higher than the version of the asset. If it requires Pro, it should say that in the asset description.
