This thread is an ode to the place we spend most of our time each working day (and for many of us on the weekends too).

So share a pic of your work environment, and a little about it...

    Here is mine...

PC - i7 3770 3.4Ghz PC in a CoolerMaster StormStryker case. GTX970 FTW Edition graphics.
Audio - Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 sound card with KRK Rokit 6 Studio Monitors
Gigabyte mechanical gaming keyboard and SteelSeries Laser Mouse

I'm currently moving 2 minutes away from my work netting me an extra 2 hours a day to work on games.

I'm still transitioning, but I'll post mine soon.

Spoiler: I bought a 4' x 8' whiteboard for my new office! :D Only paid $13 for it too!

Working at home has its privileges. Here's a recent view of my back yard, right outside of my office window. I spend more time outside lately than in, so I figured this was more appropriate than a picture of my boring computer desk.

I also work with a single screen, fully realizing that I could be more productive with one or more extra, but not really caring enough to do anything about it.

How do you have so much freedom? Seems like Disney is way less strict then any large developer I know.

I've worked with 3 screens, I've worked with 2, and since the new 4k monitors have come out, I just find having one nice fat ultra HD monitor in my face is the best :)

Its better for gaming, and while I do miss a second screen sometime, the one big monitor just works better for me.
My eyes also tend to get sore with multiple screens, I had 2 x 27"s once and that was too much.

Yep, that's my baby, been working on it for 7 years now (on and off). Super Offroad is a massive influence on my game.

I will join you in having very fond memories of Super Off Road. I played a lot of it on the NES in the early 1990's.

Yeah - not fair zombie! That's the mouses work environment, he only shares it with you!
Show us your 3 legged lopsided desk in the back room of the house like everybody else! :D

I'd participate but I'm an artist - the surface of my desk is currently hidden under important stuff. Oh - there's my wacom pen! Now I can bump up that sculpt on the priority list.

Awesome Boba Fett by the way and wooden skull thingy.

I'm not sharing it, the mouse pays me to sit next to the fett. ;) In fact, this facility was built specifically for my team. When we were aquired, they built us fancy new digs. (Our old place was.... not awesome)

The statues were added a couple of years ago after our first trip to LucasFilm/ILM, our EP felt our office was too spartan. (everything is compared to ILM). So we commissioned a bunch of statues and big wall art things (SHIELD/Hydra/Reb/Emp logos.. etc). Here are few the cooler statues:
    chars.jpg

    For my actual workstation:
    zg_desk.jpg

For my home setup... just a laptop. I have extra monitors and a tablet, but they are mostly in the closet. I do have a headless frankenbox running linux for a file server in the other room. My MBP does all my heavy lifting. ;)

Our culture is a creative one. Though we are in SV, we are closer in the way we operate to Pixar and the animation studios than other game studios. Though some of the big studios have a creative environment as well (Naughty Dog for example).

Lol, I am poor. My macbook pro laptop retina screen is broken which cost $1000 to repair. So I will need to plug in my macbook pro into a monitor screen to save some bucks. I am too poor to afford a new good desktop yet. I am just saving some bucks now.

I miss smoking. Clove cigarettes for years. Used to get a LOT of reading done while at work (mostly 3DSMax and other software manuals, things like that), had some great impromptu meetings with other smokers at work, had time outside to think instead of being at my desk, and had a lot of really super creative thoughts. Quit 16(?) years ago and sooo happy to have given my lungs and nose and life and all that a break. I wouldn't go back. But damn I do miss it sometimes, haha.

Sigh... that is main reason I have such a hard time even considering giving it up, is because it is a fantastic way to step away from the computer and have a chat and clear the mind. I have solved many problems and found solutions just going out for break and chatting. I suppose I could jog or do something more healthy... but it is hard to jog and chat. ;)

Kudos on the quitting and sticking with it.

You could stop but the second hand smoke you'd get from others during that period would still affect you. Besides just think about what would happen if you were jogging and got hit by a car. :p

I used to work in Montreal in an office that had a clear view of once of the building entrances. Even in -25C weather, there was no shortage of people going outside to smoke.

Here is my current workstation. I just moved my office into this room so I had space for my Vive. It used to be a home theater room for the people that lived here before. Everything was blacked out including the windows. It's actually nice having windows that I can open but the black walls are kind of maddening. _DSC0639.jpg .

Yeah, just paint stars and galaxies over the black and pretend you are surrounded by the cosmos

....Actually, no, that'd probably be horribly distracting. I'd probably never get work done in a room like that, I'd just be wearing a space helmet all the time....But thats just me....hopefully...

I know a bit of the Canadian game industry. Usually Vancouver is a better game industry than Montreal, but Montreal is better than Toronto, and the Toronto is better than the rise of Canada. With the nice downtown capital will be nice to create a game industry. I live in Toronto, but feels like I will never can own that costly million dollar Vancouver house to live in the best business capital from Canada, unless I invest money like over 20 years.

    Have you considered "chipping"?

You basically lower your smoking to almost all together, but don't actually quit.

I've tried to quit but when I caved I crashed.

Instead now I only smoke 1 to 1/2 pack a week and have done so for several years. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better than nothing and is vastly easier than quitting.

Stopped 11 days ago and counting... Smoked for 22 years... Guess what, it's just easy. Didn't lose any creativity or speed in creating content.
And yeah the hardest part is to not be able to just stop and think while doing this terrible habit / addiction. I wake up every morning with this weird dream that I smoked one and feel guilty for a bit. At least now, the money that ws going into that is transformed into allowances for the kids...

    Congrats on quitting.

I too smoked for over 10 years; pack a day kinda guy. Pretty bad. But once my wife told me she was pregnant I quit cold turkey. Finished that last pack and never looked back. Haven't smoked a cigarette now for over year. I'm one of those guys who would never wanted to quit. I love the feeling of smoking a cigarette; always have always will. But ten years is enough.

Although I do smoke an occasional black and mild cigar every now and then.

You'll never want to go back! I'm currently browsing the forum fullscreen on the center monitor, and the other two monitors left and right have a nice foggy forest wallpaper on them. Ahhhh, good times.

I'm happy that you managed to quit, but what's easy for you might be hard for another. Now see if you can sustain this for another 11 years, because 11 days out of 22 years is not that impressive. Good luck :)

1 month and half so far. It still is easy. Once you know that you can get unhooked of nicotine in 5 days, you understand that's it's easy. the rest is just thinking about it in a different way and changing your habits. Thinking that it's not easy is just because you're not really willing to quit for whatever reason you chose.

There are prescription drugs to help you quit smoking. Might be worth a try to ease the cravings for the first two months.

It was easy enough to stop for 3 months but even easier to start again... I quit exactly like this for multiple times already but haven't been able to leave this nasty habit forever.

Basically going back to only one puff brings back nicotine in your organism. Then it's screwed up. Your body will ask for more. Once you've quit for more than 3 weeks, you should have changed your habits. The trick is to not touch it at all just because you simply don't need it.
