I also prefer the 2.x way of viewing editor installs. Please make that an option again in the 3.x interface

Hi, I like the new theme! One small new suggestion I wanted to give is this:

    upload_2021-7-9_21-2-59.png

If the project search bar could be moved next to the "Open" button that would be great!

I just tried out the 3.0.0 beta today and it broke my 2019.4.15f1 project that uses PlasticSCM. It tried to re-pull the entire repository, doing unnecessary deletions and added back files that I have removed several changesets ago, and caused my workspace to be out of sync (said PlasticSCM GUI) and I had to force the changes back with the GUI. It also changed my project to use V2 Asset Pipeline.

Doing a clean reimport (removing Library folder) did not help all and it still tries to re-pull everything again, and only after I switch back to 2.X, re-synced the workspace and did another clean re-import did the project started working again.

So far liking the new look. My only feedback is that when creating a new project the name and location are almost off screen. I would suggest moving this to the top or making the large green banner smaller. Also I find the exit, maximize, and minimize buttons to be quite large on Windows compared to other programs.

Where is the switch platform before opening the project switch? seems a downgrade not having this feature, you don't know how much time it saves reimporting assets over and over

@Gennady Has the cli also been rewritten? In 2.x, it works badly and it's not a real cli, you have to put the parameter "--" which doesn't make any sense. In addition to bugs of installations that do not finish or finish but are not registered in the IDE of the hub.

More info on my past problems:

    https://forum.unity.com/threads/fee...s-a-continuous-integration-dependency.710570/

    https://forum.unity.com/threads/fee...s-integration-dependency.710570/#post-6359502

Is this "Unity Downloader" a thing? Is there something similar that works reliably on 3.x cli?

    Another basic missing cli feature:

I reverted by to 2.4.4 and my "add" button to add a project doesn't work anymore. I uninstalled and reinstalled the hub and still the add button doesn't work. I restarted my computer and the add button doesn't work. Not sure what the beta broke, but that is odd behavior...

Switching back to beta lets me add projects by the Open button, but I needed to move back between the reports here and some odd behavior I started to get after I used it a bit, it was getting risky.

This doesnt have anything to do with the hub though. The entire logic after a project is opened is in the hands of the editor.

+1 on this, clicking the Editor Version field for the project to be able to switch the platform is a very hidden, non-obvious, and convoluted way to do that..

Then after it resets to "current platform"

What IS the current platform? How can I see that easily? etc

I don't understand why not just leave the platform we wanted to open on as the one that is also selected after to show THAT is the current platform?

I don't know if this issue is specific to the new Hub, but the installation of Android support fails in Windows because the default path is too long. An editor installed in
    C:\Program Files\Unity\Hub\Editors\2020.3.6.f1\
will fail to move the NDK files, for example (I didn't try with other libraries). I know this because I tried to move the files manually from the temp folder.

On top of this, the hub incorrectly reports that it can't install the files because they're in use and recommends closing Unity and related processes. IDK if the path issue can be solved, but a correct error message would at least ease troubleshooting. Moving the default installation path to
    C:\Unity\
seems to have solved the issue for now.

Edit: Now I see the message refers to deleting old items, so I'm not entirely sure it's the same issue.

Edit 2: This also fails with Hub 2.4.4, although it al least manages to install the JDK before failing at the NDK.

I second the request that a standard "system UI" title bar should be an option. I also request that if there's going to be a custom title bar at all on Windows, it should be improved to look more like the Mac OS custom title bar. On Windows, it is not only incoherent with one's system theme settings, it's incoherent with the rest of the Unity Hub UI. It is abruptly and completely black. The Mac OS custom title bar is at least coherent and fluid with the dark grey tones and design language of the rest of the Unity Hub UI.

    upload_2021-7-9_21-30-30.png
Windows Custom Title bar: Incoherent, doesn't flow with Unity Hub UI or use system UI
    upload_2021-7-9_21-27-55.png
Mac OS Custom Title bar: Coherent, flows seamlessly with Unity Hub UI
(Note that this screenshot is from the Unity Hub docs, and maybe doesn't reflect how it actually looks on Mac OS? Can anyone running Mac OS confirm? If not, I believe it should)

I have a feeling this is something that may already be planned, but just didn't make it into the initial beta for Windows?

I have similar issue that it adds collaborate package to my project that I already removed and the folders of assets inside project tab has bluish icon at top right corner for the folder icon. It also adding back the built-in packages that I removed. The current Unity Hub 3.0.0-beta.1 is really buggy and needs to fix this critical bug. Unity Hub 2.4.4 dun have this issue.

everytime i load my project in the new 3.0 unity hub i will get compilation error which prompt me to enter safe mode.

first i enter safe mode and i see there is nothing wrong. and on the next load the same error prompt and this time i select ignore.

the project loads perfectly. but each time i load the project i will get the compilation error and it will reset all my packages. and auto enable unity collab. its anoyying.

It should be in the hands of the editor but it is not when it comes to the new hub. Seriously this is absurd but the new hub affects the projects in some way (forces reimport, breaks references, modifying packages manifest.json).

I think it was not reported here yet.

The HDRP template is the OLD template pre 2020.3. I downloaded the HDRP template to open in Unity 2021.2.0b3

    It went through 3 stages

    1. Said first that there are some problems with packages and stuff in manifest.json
    2. When I clicked retry, the prompt with info shown that some packages were saved with Unity 5.0 (SIC!!!)
    3. After it finally processed everything then had tons of errors

    This is what was downloaded

The option to add an existing project is gone. Now to do that you have to goto open an existing project from disk and it opens up the project, no option to directly add a project without opening it.

For project organization within the hub - the ability to create a "Project Folder" to group projects in Unity Hub would be nice.

    Problem statement:
Right now, all projects are presented as a flat list in the Projects tab. If many projects are added into the hub, user is required to scroll through the long list.

    Suggestion:
Give the ability to create a "Project Folder" (Not a real folder, just a "container" within Unity Hub) to group projects. This header is collapsible to hide multiple projects. This header can also be re-ordered within the list or be auto sorted.

I really need this feature considering the number of prototypes projects I create to test different features and functionality or maybe just to check upgradability, any kind of grouping system would go a long way in helping with this problem

Using the Beta then switching back totally messed up my templates (now I have only 3D and 2D options) and the default location (clicking the three dots to select a path does nothing) when making a new project. This is all I've discovered so far, I'm worried there may be more broken. upload_2021-7-11_0-36-30.png

Edit: I was able to restore templates somewhat by selecting New > and then a specific Unity version, instead of just hitting the New button. The default location is still broken though.

Edit 2: The only way to fix everything was by deleting the contents of "~/Library/Application support/UnityHub"

    Just a couple of observations.

Under the Appearance tab under Preferences, there is a Language section. Seems to me this might not be the most suitable tab to place the section as it isn't strictly related to appearance. Perhaps add a Language tab instead.

One notable exclusion under Appearance here is the ability to set the theme. Personally I don't much like the dark theme and would prefer like ability to apply the previous light theme.

While I'm just thinking out loud:
While I realize the hub is designed to be a project manager and launcher, it would be nice to also be able to manage and launch previous executable builds of projects from the Projects section.
Might not make sense. I'll let you guys decide.

    Hopefully this helps.

The new hub looks really impressive. But, found some annoying bugs.
    1. I was working on my cloud collab project. After each time I open up my project everything is in pink and blue without any materials and unity reimports everything like it is for the first time opening up the project.
2.Then comes the next issue, I can't commit the changes to the server. Sometimes only one or two changes get commits the rest are reset back to the previous form.
    3. After I reopen the project again some of the objects linked in the inspector are unlinked without any reason. ( these linked objects don't come under point 2, I had linked them far before.)
    4. On account of all these issues, I roll back to the production build of the Hub, but I made a terrible mistake, though it was all the problem of my unity editor and deleted my project from my drive and installed the production build of unity hub and I refreshed to get my cloud project. It showed, but I couldn't download it. I have no idea, why this is even happening. Read all the forums and couldn't find a solution for it.
    InkedScreenshot 2021-07-11 112232_LI.jpg
The button is visible but couldn't download it.
I again moved to the beta release and downloaded the project. still, all the issues haven't gone and one more thing that happened at that time was, one of the shaders was importing in a loop. so I deleted the shader and then I moved from beta to production release. and Now collaboration or service isn't working. I hope the friendly developers from unity will solve these issues soon.

-It's a bit improvement for sure.

    - If we click a project with a version that's not installed, please just allow us to install that version from the popup instead of having to go to the archive in order to find it. Pretty sure this was implemented in V2? If we're missing the project version, we want to wait 5 minutes for a download/install, not 1 hour for a reimport in a new version.

-The Install Unity Editor menu needs a checkbox to show non-latest versions of the editor, or a button to take us to the archive. We had to fight you for like over a year to put it into the Hub in the first place, don't remove it, we need it.

-I prefer the Installs list instead of the grid layout. Some grouping by major version would make it even better. The same thing would be nice in all places where you list editor versions - selecting version for new projects, changing version, etc.

-Having the ability to select version inside the new project menu is a big improvement.

-Current platform is confusing and annoying:
    upload_2021-7-11_14-54-24.png
If you remove it, and have the selected platform be blue with a checkbox, you're conveying the correct information: upload_2021-7-11_14-55-53.png

-I don't need Learn that much anymore, so it's not meant for me, but: The "Featured" and "Recommended" categories are somewhat strange? What's the difference? They seem to actually be "Beginner" and "Intermediate", so maybe they should be named that?

    - The missing version marker needs a hover tooltip

    - You still can't uninstall versions that were added through the "Locate" button. Can't you just run uninstall.exe in the same folder?

I couldn't open a project from disk when the unity version for the project was not installed. After switch back to production channel I could open the project. However, add button is not working on production version.

    1. Don't auto select Visual Studio and Documentation when I install editors, and especially not when I want to add additional modules to installed editors. I never want those things so it's annoying having to deselect them every single time and especially annoying when I forget and Visual Studio immediately starts bloating my computer with installers etc. that I have to manually remove afterwards.

    2. Also, can we choose not to have the dark mode theme? Dark mode by default with no option to not have dark mode seems like a big step back in terms of accessibility imo.

    3. Is it not possible to uninstall modules without uninstalling the entire editor?

Error: Unity Hub 3 free Activation on channel Beta! No licenses, yet! BUG (warning for users before switch from production to beta, unless fix)
Also: Does not work to reinstall old Unity hub 2.4 and free activate neither <100k - activation incompatible to downgrade? fails https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/OnlineActivationGuide.html
Friends helps with clean and update again to v3, not the Blue Add License, but press the Black Button ADD_LICENSE , got it done.

Hey. thanks for making it dark . looks awesome so far and I haven't noticed any bug yet. one major thing that is annoying is that it won't close down to tray , once a project is opened, and we have to manually close it down everytime. thanks again!

Unity Collaborate keeps reactivating and installing the Collaborate package with Newtonsoft Json dependency which conflicts with local Newtonsoft Json dll.
I cannot unlink project, it just keeps relinking automatically.
These issues does not happen with Hub 2.4.4

That is a 'full' path. Each person's home folder is named uniquely, hence the useful ~ Linux "shortcut" to denote a user's home directory, which also applies to Mac OS.

In Finder click the "Go" menu, then select "Go to Folder..." and paste the path I provided, it will work fine. :)

I'm really missing the option to select the build platform from the hub before opening the project. It seems to be gone in 3.0.0-beta.1
For really big projects, the time hit of doing a reimport is really big, and having the option to choose the platform in the hub is very valuable.

Click on the editor version column in the row of the proper project and there you can check/select platform as well as editor version.

    - Switching channel is not response and have no indicator is one of the most annoying things I have ever experience with unity. Who design this UI that you would download things in the background without telling us that you are doing it in the background?

    - Installing new editor in hub V3 force us to download microsoft visual studio 2019 without option to opt out. I don't think I need that and I never download it. I need to switch back to 2.4 to opt out and install it

It's not forcing me to install it.

I believe what is happening when you're "forced to install it" is that the installer thinks it's already installed, but instead of having a custom UI element saying "already installed", it just shows a greyed out checked box that's not interactable.

Since everyone thinks that means it's forcing an install, that's not a very good UX!

I moved my project away from Collaborate to PlasticSCM a while back but now when I opened with v3 it starts "Checking for changes", this does not happen with 2.4.4.

New projects with v3 or ones that never had Collaborate enabled don't seem to have this problem so some leftover must be triggering it.

I hope this gets fixed in beta 2 as the new hub looks very nice and I would like to use it again.

When trying to open a project without the correct unity version installed, I want to have a button to install that specific version, like the old hub did with a notification. The list of versions you can install is (still) very limited, i understand prioritizing the newest versions, but having a dropdown (like the packagemanager) to view older versions, would be really useful.

    1. missing opportunity: add command line suffix to editor launch
    2. love the search bar being there all the time.
    3. search debounce too slow
    4. wasteful layout for projects, need compact vertical form that is16:9 friendly
    5. bad layout for installs because it waste precious vertical space. 2.x is good because it makes efficient use of horizontal space, which we have a lot of with 16:9 screens

    I got this as well.
As people mentioned before Unit Hub force adds the collab-proxy package upon opening the projects.
Even if I revert it, it adds it back again and again.
It also adds a lot of other packages and modules that I don't need/want.

Reverting the files and reverting Unity Hub to 2.4.4 and our project works again.

Thanks for pointing this out! You can remove only "projectDir.json" file, not the whole folder.

The new hub severely messed up my projects. For no apparent reason now all my projects wanted to download Collab and a ton more of packages that I carefully removed, due to some "mergeDefaultDependencies" process.
I had to uninstall the Hub, remove all config folders and revert to 2.x version to be able to open my projects again.

    Thanks for the update..
Instead of single click open the project, may be a open button. Bcoz clicked a big project by mistake which started opening.. and no option for stopping the process of opening

    Hi all,

Thanks for the update, so far seems good but after a few minutes in it I miss one thing. When you download a project from Unity Collaborate there is no option to select the destination folder. This little thing is quite annoying as I personally use a peculiar structure for projects and with an option on settings to set the default project destination folder will not be enough.

Also, as a general suggestion I would love to be able to download a Collaborate project when I already have one locally, as now when I want to download it (i.e to compare some behavior) I have to remove the current one from the list and then add it again. Would be great if the hub let you know that there is already a local copy but let you any way.

Thanks for your time and looking forward for the updates!
