Downloaded it today (3.0.0-beta.5) and for some reason, most likely due to poor connectivity, the download failed, which on itself was ok. The thing is, I didn't know about that for about 15 minutes because the application was showing the usual "In Progress (0 of 2 completed)" with the usual spinning icon, like it was still working. After a while I figured it was kinda weird since it shouldn't take that long, I clicked there, then it expanded and showed that the download for "Editor application" had failed.

First, the new hub looks awesome! it would be good to have an option for light theme.
Also, today I saw a message in Unity that invites me to download the new 2020 version, but it is already installed, so check it out!

Please add light mode. I just upgraded and it makes things difficult to read with astigmatism.

    Hub requests login without need
    upload_2021-10-24_13-21-14.png

After clicking on sign in, a web explorer window is open and Unity hub is updated, so the user is able to see the packages. Anyway, it is better to fix it.

On Linux KDE (this goes to the "stable" version as well), right clicking the icon on the task bar basically freezes up my whole computer.

How can I download Unity Hub 2.4.4? I've been unable to log in since Beta 5 came out, the splash screen comes up, I click "Sign In", I get redirected to a web page, I log in then click open the app, but I'm not logged in, but I stay on the opening screen. There is no more "settings" or anything like that to navigate to.

    ./UnityHubBeta.AppImage
ERROR: Licensing SDK logging callback is not registered. Please use 'registerLoggingAdapter' function from the SDK to do so.

Also, you should be embarrassed about saying in the release notes that you've added help to the hub CLI (https://unity3d.com/hub/whats-new)

    • Added clear instructions on how to run Hub CLI with the help command

    ./UnityHub.AppImage --help
    Options:
    -h, --help Show help [boolean]

BTW, a --version flag would be helpful.

    Good Monday everyone!

Thanks for your support and feedback. A new beta just went out! See the full release notes here.

If you already subscribed to the beta channel you should see the update prompting (you might want to restart to for the auto updater to pick it up).

Looking forward to reading more feedback.

Looking forward for in progress item from roadmap :)

Thanks for roadmap. It is most important feature of this release for me.

    @davidsamacoits:

    upload_2021-10-26_11-27-13.png

We've asked for a button in this window that starts a download for the missing version from day 1 of Hub version 1. That button isn't even on the roadmap. Did you forget about it? Did you go back to thinking that "users should only use the latest version" like you did for a while back in the Hub 2 days before you started listening to your users?

A roadmap is great, but some of the items on the roadmap are... why are they on the roadmap? Why haven't you just done them? Renaming the project means opening a yaml file and changing a single line in there. You can show the project name, so you're able to parse the file, so it should literally be 10 minutes to finish the feature. Add tests, handling that the file might be locked by a different application, and updating the Hub UI, and I might stretch it to taking a single developer a day. Staring stuff should be similarly trivial. Just do it, no roadmap is necessary.

If those things are not trivial, then some really hard thinking about where everything went wrong needs to happen.

Pausing and resuming downloads is harder, but you've had more time to do that, with probably a larger team, than we use to create entire video games. I don't understand what's happening.

I had hopes with the new "version 3 is a new beginning" spiel, but it seems like it's more of the same old - 100x times longer development than what's sensible, and features prioritized in what seems like an utterly arbitrary fashion.

So beta 6 of the hub is released: https://unity3d.com/hub/whats-new, and the release notes mention fixing the Linux issue.

    Linux
    • Improved support and better integration. Download the latest .tgz archive for Linux available here: https://unity.com/download and check out the README file for instructions on how to run the scripts provided
There is no .tgz file listed for Linux on https://unity.com/download. There is only a link to UnityHubBeta.AppImage:

    https://public-cdn.cloud.unity3d.com/hub/prod/UnityHubBeta.AppImage

As of this post, that file is 141352136 bytes. No checksum, version number, --version, or anything that would help figuring out if this is the right version.

It appears to be beta5, and continues to be plagued by the problems in beta6.

Could someone from Unity provide a link to the referenced .tgz file?

    Thanks.

    Dear Lucy,

Damn, I fell for it. I hacked for an hour yesterday, at least had the Editor working, and I ignored the warning, now I'm getting this.

Seems like 3.0.0 beta 6 of Unity Hub have problem with free space available on MacOS Monterery. I have 100GB of free space and the Hub reports around 20 GB of free space?

Thank you for addressing the URL handling issue regarding the missing *.desktop file.

I also would like to second the need for theme options of light and dark mentioned previously. Even on the Forums and Online Documentation. Just seems out of sync or feature parity with the Unity Editor. Which does have the option.

I reinstalled latest Hub beta and this is still a big issue. I even got desperate enought to uninstall all LTS and other recent releases, yet Hub 3 even favors 4.5 year old Unity 5.6 over latest 2022.1 version:

Having it pick actual release over alphas and betas one time is fine IMHO but always forcing it is silly and should be something left to user to decide.

If it keeps going like that, only sane way to keep things easy to work on latest previews is to HIDE all other unity editors from it... ..which frankly beats the whole purpose of having the hub in the first place.

I have been using the new hub beta.6 for a little while, and although I like a few things about it there are a couple of things about it that make it feel heavier/bulkier than the previous version. I liked that the previous hub was very light and fast, and this feels sluggish by comparison.

The biggest pain point to me is the New Project process. I feel that this is one of the main actions being done here and it's currently relegated to a sort of sub option inside projects. I think it is justified to place it as a main option, always accessible. In the current flow it feels like it's a side-task, like adding a new install rather than a main feature.

Another issue with process that makes the editor feel slower, is that the default option when you go to create a new project is All templates. This then loads every possible template, which, for 2020 LTS takes a good 5-15 seconds on its first load, and as templates are seemingly becoming a bigger feature, this will likely only get longer. I think you should default it to the Core templates, and then allow people to add others if they want to rather than defaulting to searching for any possible template. Additionally, the HDRP and the URP, as they have become the main focus of the engine as of 2019 or even earlier, should be a Core template and not a sample at this stage. This messaging makes them feel a lot more experimental than they are.

    Looks like
    • Fixed Android modules installation
From Beta 6 is still not fixing all related issues, as I'm seeing this after freshy new 2020.2 installation through the UnityHub 3.0 Beta 6:

Please don't forget about package registries. I'm afraid that this feature has been lost between two teams that needs to comunicate.

    Hi everyone!
I get this error every time I want to start a project from the Unity Hub.
The Unity Hub closes, the Unity start page appears, then it closes and Unity Hub reopens. So I can't start a project.

    Any solution?

I already tried to go back to Unity Hub v2 and reinstall my Editor.

    Thanks :)

Please add multi login feature. For programmers who work on several project with several companies (using unity services). Easy switch between accounts like google did this (choose one of active).

Mac M1: migrating from Intel machine (the migration assistant copies everything), the Hub beta 6 couldn't add my pro license.
i had to reistall hub v2 to finalize the license.
then i re-upgraded to 3beta6 to install the silicon Unity.. but the install kept failing ("couldn't validate"). had the same error also installing current 2020.3 LTS
so i deleted all /Application Support/UnityHub/ folder , reisntalled 3beta6 and i could install Unity (2020 intel and 2021 silicon) without problems

the main problem now is that Hub is SLOW to launch and manage.. could we plese try a silicon version soon? :)

I can't install Unity 2021.2.2f1 because of the validation error.
    I've deleted
    ~/Library/Application\ Support/UnityHub
    , and
    ~/Library/Caches/com.unity3d.unityhub
, but it is in vain.

I have 3 issues with the Version 3.0.0-beta.6.
    • This one, I managed to solve, which is that the Hub downloads Editor and components but cannot install them. Running Hub as administrator fixes this issue, but you have to re-download everything.
    • On Installs screen, sometimes platform label next to Unity Editor version says Intel even tough I've installed Silicon. But I can say it is Silicon regarding the performance of the Editor. Weird thing, if it says Silicon, Editor launches with the dark mode and if it says Intel, it launches in light mode.
    • I could not reopen one of my projects as Unity said "Another instance of the project is open", which is not and no Unity instances were listed at Activity Monitor. Thankfully the project was a copy, so I deleted it and created another copy which successfully launched. Restarting hub or the system didn't help FYI.
    Hub version: Version 3.0.0-beta.6.
    Editor: 2021.2.3f1
System: MBP M1 Max macOS 12.0.1

I don't know if this was mentioned here already but Hub 3.0 is quite a dummy when it comes to having mismatching engine versions. Like if I have a project built on 2021.2 alpha and have 2021.2.3f1 installed, it tries to open it on 2022.1 alpha by default.

There should be some simple check if you have newer minor version of the same major engine version installed and try to use that instead.

Since version 2, didnt work anymore. Always crash. Not even a error. Actually, I have a "Critical Error (5)" in Task Manager. I tried Beta 6, with the same result. Backing up to previous version.

The project overview seems far less functional/informational now. As someone working with multiple versions of Unity on multiple platforms, hiding any of that or making it less visible/harder to see is awful. It also seems like i need to make the window twice as big to still see less information than in 2.4.5.

I hope we'll be able to change the order of the columns back to how it was before, last modified is far less important than the editor version.

I've tried it and revert back right away. It's ugly, clunky, has no advantages over the old one and it seems, again, that you just want to copy the competition (which is NOT a good thing as hubs are concerned). I hate hubs, they are mainly useless and a waste of time, but I was...okey with yours because it was simple, straightforward without any useless visuals, plus it was not trying to push me in a particular direction, a bit, but not as much as the new one. Seriously... this is not a necessary update, not at all. I would prefer like 10327248460170238 times you fix your S*** and unify a bit your tech. It's called "Unity", but it's all over the place right now. you need somebody to sort it out.

Hub 3 has issues that need to be addressed - which is why this thread even exists, but just ranting about how bad it is without explaining how is just pointless and helps nobody. Unity isn't always moving in direction the community around wants it to, but they often do revert the bad calls or fix the workflow otherwise after getting enough feedback from the users - which again is why threads like this exist.

Same problem, and only pass in old unity versions like 2019.4.5 - 2019.4.6 - etc. With Unity 2019.4.14 I can open the project. If I open the project manually with the scene file, the project say to me that I need to add a license, and I'm logged in the unity hub and unity project...

    I post this problem here:

For me it is close to being unusable.
Running 3.0.0-beta.6 on an M1 Macbook Pro, starting Hub is most of the time unreasonably slow (taking 1-2 minutes to show content after popping up a black window at first). Also clicking buttons and other interaction with the UI, e.g. switching to the Installs tab or even scrolling is taking 6-8 seconds every time. I don't see higher CPU usage while it is slow.

A smaller issue for me is that when installing a new editor version, the selected modules are always back at default. In the current stable version, it is quite handy to get the same modules selected as with the previous install.

Every time I open the unity hub (3.0.0 beta 6) it asks me to reinput my license key. Luckily I had my key saved otherwise I would have had to go through the entire key finding process again. Please fix this asap. Thankyou unity team.

When will Unity Hub support Apple Silicon natively (without Rosetta 2)?

If you are new to Unity, do not use alpha or beta product. Stay with latest Hub 2.4.5 and Unity LTS.

My single biggest complaint of Hub 3.0.0-beta.6 atm is that it's ability to uninstall existing editors is... well sketchy at best. My typical experience is hub getting stuck at this stage:

It totally gets stuck for this state and when you finally give up and restart the hub, the engine version might be gone from the list but actual folder is still there with adb.exe, adbwinapi.dll and adbwinusbapi.dll in it. This happens because that adb process Unity uses for android module might remain running in the background even when I haven't had editor or any android device connected to the computer for day+.

I'd hope there would be some kind of check and meaningful error message for cases like this, instead of failing silently, acting like everything is fine on next run but leaving part of the files behind on the drive.

Well and actually forcing adb to close when it's clearly not being used anymore :) I do use Oculus Developer Hub at times which uses adb as well so it could be related to this but I've always assumed it uses it's own adb instance?

If unity can't for whatever reason kill the running processes that prevent graceful uninstall, maybe pop a message to the user asking to kill the processes it can't access and have option to hit retry button after that, or list processes currently preventing the full uninstall and have "kill process" button or something, giving user option to actually do something about it directly (which is the normal way of doing this).

Unable to login to Unity Hub 3.0 Beta on Ubuntu 20.04. I click "Sign in", and it opens up a login in my Firefox browser, and when I sign in, it just sits there.

Also tried in Chromium browser and when I sign in, it gives me an 'xdg-open' pop-up.

When I click "Open xdg-open" it says:

V3 beta still can't update on Mac:

This is an ancient bug. In fact, no hub ever has worked for me. Download works, update doesn't, and I'm fairly sure the issue is that I'm not running as Admin and the Hub simply doesn't ask for permissions to update the Applications folder.

Come on guys, it's not so hard. Every other update utility out there manages it.

    But what's really annoying is:

The download link for Mac installer on https://unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive (the non-hub way) now redirects to https://unity.com/download?thank-you=update&download_nid=65382&os=Mac -- which means I can't even go that way anymore. WTF ?

That redo/refresh icon doesn't help? I occasionally get these for fresh installs, typically hitting that icon lets it finish on next try.

    @rz_Olento: That does nothing.

What appears to work is to run the Hub with an Admin account and install a new Unity version then.

    Good Monday y'all!

We appreciate your feedback. A new beta got out including a lot of fixes and improvements based on what you told us. See the full release notes here.

If you already subscribed to the beta channel you should see the update prompting (you might want to restart to for the auto updater to pick it up).

Looking forward to reading more feedback.

  49. Nice 500th post in the thread! :)

I'm on Windows 10, so I don't really have any crucial problems with the Hub so far. The only strange thing I could find is in the learn section, tutorials show up more than once in English and in Japanese. Although the DOTS Japanese tutorial doesn't show up in English. The ECS tutorial is there twice (once at the top as highlighted). Clicking on the Japanese tutorials, they open in Learn in English properly. I never had any software on my computer in Japanese. That includes the Hub and Unity.

Update: It also doesn't work if I give my normal user account read/write permissions on the /Applications/Unity folder, so there's more permissions needed than that.
