I daresay that looks better than Infinity Blade! (and with more going on than 1v1 battles and static geometry, haha)

The graphics are quite impressive for recent mobile standards.
However, the art and story is pretty generic and unoriginal. Looks like just another shooter from epic games in a post-apocalyptic environment with some muscle men and big guns.

I am happy to see a fantastic looking title such as this one appear. Thumbs up on the art front. Very well executed. Lighting and colors look very nice. The community needs more titles of such quality! Keep it up!

Sad that you get labelled as hater, just because you have some criticism. Not everyone is a graphics whore. Unique art and a fun gameplay are more important for some people.
Regarding to the art. You should understand the difference between aesthetics and graphics. Here is a little video which may give you some idea about that matter.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and agree with Melonsoda.

Enemy designs are really bland; they and the hero are practically the same mesh. They both use guns in about the same way, use similar guns, even the muzzle flashes are very similar. The level designs don't really seem to convey anything in particular or suggest a real place; they're kind of crying, "we played a lot of Quake 3" to me.

None of that's terrible, and it looks polished... it's just kinda meh, we've played this game before, and far better. If you guys are building a straightforward Quakelike, at least pick up cues from Painkiller, Serious Sam or the other great classics of the genre and give us enemies that are interesting in a setting that matters. I don't know how much any of that will effect sales; I don't know enough about the market you're targeting. But if it was a PC title, I'd say it was in big trouble, unless there's a really innovative feature to the gameplay.

Believe me, visual quality of this game is like nothing you've seen so far on mobile devices - you just have to see it in your hands, in motion, with all the animations, dynamic environment and awesome lighting. :D

I have to agree with some of the comments in this thread, I don't think the screenshots do the game any favours

The main character is in the same position in all of them - Is this a fixed unmovable camera?

The last two images it almost looks like you have copied and pasted the main character and the first bad guy in, they are both in the same position and exact same point in the animation.

I think some new screenshots would greatly benefit your marketting drive.

I think outside of a few people who just want to go against the grain, their marketing efforts have been stellar so far. I'm sure they'll receive the same amount of buzz as Hawken, especially if they release a video of something moving.

It cracks me up how people feel to be relevant and critical, they have to criticize. Even if this was just posed assets, generating assets of this quality and composing a scene is easier said than done.

From a business perspective, I think this is brilliant, even if it is completely derivative (although it very well may not be, any assumptions at this point is purely speculative from 3 freakin' screenshots and a paragraph-long story summary), because its not a PC game, so it doesn't really matter. A third person shooter of this fidelity simply doesn't exist on the platform, so it will sell because its flashy and hasn't been done before (in the mobile market).

Gameloft's whole business model is based around this strategy (rip off an experience from another platform and bring it to the mobile market), and they make millions off of it. Even Chair/Epic with Infinity Blade, the game was essentially just a graphics tech demo; its basically fruit ninja with some quirky additional systems and awesome graphics, and is one of the best selling apps on the market.

Great that you finally understand the difference between art and graphics... I assume you did not watch the video...
It's also nice, that you talk about awesome graphics and amazing gameplay blah blah. There is just a tiny problem... Nobody said, that the gameplay sucks. How? We have not seen any gameplay yet. We talked about the art only. Like I initially said, the graphics are pretty impressive.

But keep talking about haters and their envy, blah blah ;)

I just bought it yesterday for ipad 2 by pure coincidence, actually just so happened to see it on the front page and I didn't know yesterday was release day until just now. It really does look unbelievable when you're actually playing it, pictures don't do it justice (plus it's really fun to boot). A lot of mobile shooters are a bit uncomfortable with all the aiming and stuff but Shadowgun does it really well, I can tell a lot of time was spent refining the controls. I was also pleased to see a lot of other visual effects too, there's cloth, lightshafts, good lightmapping, etc.

It is very similar to Gear of War but it works and it's fun to play so I don't mind the similarities. And again, the graphics...this game shows that Unity is in fact capable of AAA quality :) Just goes to show that it really comes down to having a team capable of making great art assets, congratulations to you guys!

Personally, I think the fact that it is almost identical to Gears of War (from what I've played so far anyways) is a big blow to Epic. A game company basically made their flagship game on mobile systems with Unity, their main competitor. Ball's in Epics court now...(which is a big deal because Epic is trying to go mobile).

This did make me laugh, if only because it reminds me of a bit from Life of Brian...

Ex-Leper: Half a dinare for me bloody life story?
Brian: There's no pleasing some people.
Ex-Leper: That's just what Jesus said, sir.

It rather sounds like you've missed the point if you're comparing a smartphone game to a PC game.

As is, bloody good job guys. Very impressed.

Congratulations to the texture artists. Its like 90%+ of graphical quality came up from their photoshop skills.
The emulated cloth is cool too. I think its skinned meshes with some spring joints attached, not as good as vertex animation, but good.
And light probes, I think it could have more contrast or light intensity because it's not THAT visible, at least in my iPad2.

The game have some little programming errors here and there, but very good result at all.
I personally get annoyed all the time I want just to rotate the camera and accidentally pass my finger over the trigger and start to shoot to nowhere. Could have an option to lock the trigger while rotating the camera unless I explicitly hit it before rotating.
Started the game on hard mode already. I think it should be harder than that for a hard mode, but I'm only on lvl2 now, so Ill wait and see.

game is simply amazing and I am so glad that more and more developers are making high end AAA quality titles for mobile and tablet devices and raising the competitve bar for quality and graphics.

The character is really something! The detail and quality is amazing, even for a pc game!

The line between AAA and indie is getting really smudgy! (for mobile at least)

My only crit is the running animation, it's what the player sees most of the time, yet it came out slightly robotic!

The texture detail is absolutely delicious!!

it got some pretty harsh reviews on touch arcade etc, I guess thats the problem with making smartphone games that look like console games - they will get compared with console games. So people are like "it looks almost as good as gears of war now Im annoyed that it isnt as good as gears of war".

    hmmm :(

This reminds me of how you need to make a PC version of Samuri II since i can't afford an i-phone.

Funny how a lot of players downgrade their reviews to request features. They use it like trade coins.
I loled too on some players who think its a Gameloft's game, like they are the only ones making non-minigames for iOS.

Not gonna happen unless the UT team helps you out like they did for SG. Lot of the stuff in SG probably wouldnt have been feasible if the UT team didnt assist them. Which I guess is true for most of the truly major projects/games being done in unity.

This game looks good and has enough of a story to keep it interesting,

on the other hand it has its share of bugs, and installing on my Xperia Play seems to compromise the whole OS. The device becomes very unresponsive after installing this game for some reason. I've cleaned of the device twice and reinstalled.

Also whover designed the driller level needs shot lol games are supposed to be fun I thought?

I think this game, despite no longer being available, needs to be remembered and played. Its performance and graphics are both excellent, as well as the fact that we can learn from it from the shared project files
