Setting Up GI for forest

    I am having a horrible experience setting up Global Illumination, my game has a basic daytime/nighttime light controller, so the light is always moving. When I try to "Generate Lighting" I always have to wait 30+ minutes on a terrain with no trees, and my terrain width and length is : 4096px.

    Is this normal to have such issues? I know that Rust uses Unity3D with the same Day & Night method. My concern is how hard the shadows hit and make everything look unrealisitc. How can I acheive global illumination with a constant rotating light while not having to wait 30 minutes to bake the scene, everytime I add a tree?
