    Hello forum,

As the title suggests. I wanna share with you this serious reoccurring problem I have with Unity.
Anyone else noticed this while working on your projects? Your computer specs have no problem whatsoever running the project and working on your game, but you can't help but notice as the project 'ages' (as in how long you're working on it from day to day), Unity's editor window becomes slower and slower to the point it becomes uncomfortable to work with. Specifically when switching between scenes and the time it takes between clicking 'play' to runtest the game. It seems to wait around considerably noticeable than what you remembered it performing back when you started. Well, it turns out this is absolutely and undeniably the case, but for very weird reasons I presume.

So the trick I discovered last year and confirmed recently to reset all the speed performance of the editor.. is to export the entire project's root folder and reimport it back into an 'empty project'. This is a slow, boring yet easy process, but necessary from time to time, for backup reasons. And just like that, for no apparent good reason, it's back to full speed again. I checked with TreeSize to look for suspicious differences in filesize and while the Library folder went from 903.5MB to 820.8MB, there isn't anything noteworthy. This does seem very strange to me. I'm hoping anyone can clarify this behavior from Unity.

    Thanks in advance!

I can't say I have noticed that, but also I restart the editor like 10 times per day and delete the Library once per week.

You'll have to be more specific. I don't have any general problem with editor slowness. Do you have some unreasonably giant scene loaded, maybe?

Interesting.. What's the Unity version you're working with? Mine is 2019.1.0f2

No, nothing dramatically large. As my project literally tries to emulate Ocarina Of Time 3D from Grezzo. How quick the scenes switch and load now too, it's an insane performance improvement compared to my old project folder half an hour ago before the 'fix'.

That's a weird version to stay on. First yearly Unity releases are notoriously buggy. Unless you have a very specific reason I would suggest you move to 2019LTS?

    I'm using 2020LTS and 2021LTS.

I recall for compatibility reasons and obsolete plugins. But since I'm no longer in need of those, I think I can make the jump to a newer version.

I mean if you can (and more often than not, you can't really), sticking to a specific version is sound advice, I just think that that version being a Tech release (and the 1st Tech release no less), is not a great idea.

I don't believe this is compatible with 2019.1

It may be worth updating to the latest 2019 LTS. Make sure you have a back-up of your project in case the update doesn't go smoothly. Personally It's never taken me more than a few hours of work to upgrade a project to a new Unity version, but I can imagine people probably have more complex projects then me.

Oh wow. It's been a while I guess.
I'm loving the new dark theme. :D

Thanks for the advice guys! Will report back on this when the issue persists.
