Surprised you left the nonsense 2D vs 3D side discussion intact.

I don't want to censor people or lock threads. The reason I haven't locked is because I would rather have faith that the community is wise enough to let something drop and learn from the past. I've locked threads in the past which have gone this direction but feedback from users is more along the lines of "hand out warnings, don't lock our threads!" but if it carries on I'll just have to resort to a lock here and there. I'm not some all-knowing deity power trip moderator, I'm a user like everyone else, so I tend to moderate how I would prefer to be moderated ie, last resort, and letting people get away with *some* cheek. Nobody wants a police state :)

But avoiding harsh moderation means you guys police yourselves. You can have fun but know when to draw a line.

    Heya folks,

There have been a lot of topics brought up here but hopefully I can clarify. At the Asset Store to protect ourselves, publishers, and all users who would potentially use any content that is obtained through the Asset Store, we have to avoid any projects that could be considered a violation of copyright and/or trademark laws.

Regardless if a submission is intended for educational purposes only, everything on the Asset Store is available for commercial use and must be compatible with being used for a finalized product.

All submission guidelines can be found at http://unity3d.com/asset-store/sell-assets/submission-guidelines
If a submission is ever declined and feedback or clarification is needed, you should respond directly to our decline message. If for some reason we are not able to respond or you need to contact us before submitting, you can always contact assetstore@unity3d.com

    Cheers,
    Ian Dunlap

Also I do appreciate your response Ian and your main reason of the asset store is only for commercial use is absolutely acceptable. Thanks for getting back to me on email and on this thread.

    Well, I'll jump here and post some thoughts too, not regarding exactly the OP issue but somewhat related. Maybe I should create a thread to discuss the first issue mainly;

    1)

Is anybody else going crazy with the delay to get new assets into the store? o_O
I submit mostly 3D (animated and static) and it takes a lifetime to me.

My last package is 10 days on wait (and counting) to be reviewed.

I do understand it takes time to review, but aren’t the current employees being massacred with the amount of packages submitted? It seems to me.

A character I submitted was refused twice (yes, entirely my fault, not going to lie) but it took me almost one month to get it inside the store. One month!!!

I love the Asset Store and I’m not leaving it to “competitors”, but it’s pretty frustrating as it is.

    2)

Where is the pending tab? :<

    3)

Once, I left Asset Store an e-mail regarding a copyright issue, 78 days later, no answer. lol
edit here: just checked, they removed the asset but never answered back. Well, that works too. lol

as per #2, that tab shows the status if your current submission if you have one pending review.

I think the question was 'where', not 'what', Dustin. The answer is: it's now been integrated into the 'Packages' tab. There's a dropdown that lets you choose between 'Published', 'Draft', and 'Pending Review.'

    right,

"tap and fly" is not "flappy assed angry birds'.. so its a go, lets put in the store.

i don't know what to say except don't ever give up when you do something like what you did because it was a good thing you where trying to do and not a negitive thing because there are way to many people who put crap out and it ruins it for people like your self and most the people working at unity and the unity members.

i will say this is that i dont care about tap and fly or angry birds but more sophisticated ADVANCED type of games. i think unity owes you one none the less.

It is to protect businesses that intellectual property laws are limited. Preempting not legal disputes but the mere possibility thereof isn't protecting publishers, it's clearly harming them.

Is there innovation in... flappy birds, even? Did they actually "invent" game mechanics (never mind that mechanics do not fall under copyright)?

    Not a good ending.

I seriously doubt it. Why innovate when it is much easier to duplicate? If innovative gameplay were their focus, they'd have made their own stuff from the beginning.

Ryiah, I was 'wondering' how much innovation there is in the 'original' flappy bird, not the template.

Its a game about avoiding obstacles to finish a level. There are so many games based on a similar concept with very little different about them. I wouldn't really consider it innovative.

Also it looks like there is another game very similar to Flappy Bird although the author claims that it was coincidental.

    re: Unity Asset Store Staff

In my own personal experience the Unity Asset Store staff have always been very responsive and professional.

    re: Flappy Birds

I remember games like Flappy Birds being around back in old Apple II, Atari 400/800, Commodore 64 days where magazines like Compute! and ANTIC had them for people to type in the hex code and play.... One I used to play had like cave and you controlled a bat and if you hit the stalactites you lost a live.

I'm not sure if this was the exact game I played, since it was long ago, but here is one of them for Atari 800
