super interested in this, have a question:
is it possible to use constrains and let it generate roads or rivers in runtime at multiple procedually generated terrain tiles?

still accepting beta testers? I have a huge terrain that I need to place train rail tracks on it and this would be very helpful. I used to work with the road asset but the problem is that it was pretty slow

Hi @antoripa that is really an interesting project. We released something similar last year for one of our top european customer, but it was not developed using indie game engine, and focused on a sinle title ( you can understand that such kind of projects have long term nda ). I have just left a message on the board of EasyRoad and i would ask you how do you position your tool comparing EasyRoad ...thanks a lot .

Thanks. Easy Road is a nice product .if you don’t need procedural generation, that is a good choice.
Sentieri was designed with a different idea that is try to get best route on a landscape . And after natural evolution was add mesh function but again using a different concept. Soon we start second round with beta users, and we will accept new users .So if you would test and share your feedback, we will be happy about that.

I would love to use this on my current "Neon" project.

Hey folks . i apologize for long absence . .. so good news and good stuff ...
    1) Sentieri 2nd round beta is going to start mid Feb. Many new features and improvement after gathered feedback during first round. I will publish here details, and even send by email with my newsletter .. ( www.earthshaping.com to subcribe if you have not yet done )
    2) I had been not working 100% on Sentieri for last 2 months as focused on a new asset .. Cascade ...the idea has been to break down Sentieri in more assets ....so Cascade is the river ( and more more and more ) part that Sentieri will support as well ...you can visit the link below .. Cascade will be live in next 4 or 5 weeks

    https://forum.unity.com/threads/beta-cascade-rivers-lakes-waterfall-and-more.514871/

    Cheers

Splitting up this asset sounds like a good idea because there seems to have been a serious case of scope creep going on here :p

    Hi,
next beta will include a new procedural terrain engine that speed up perfomance
Beta will start as soon as the river asset Cascade is out.

Will there be a plugin for use at runtime for editing of roads, etc?

Ie, player wants to build a road, uses plugin to mark where it should be, and then submits for build and it gets placed on map.

    Next question:
Does this integrate and work with Map Magic? IE, as post processing after MapMagic creates an endless terrain.

I am using MM for terrain generation, and am considering using Cascade for rivers, lakes, waterfalls, Sentieri for roads/rivers, and Megasplat for making it all look pretty. :)

Hopefully this will all work out and make my life easier...

Integration with Map Magic in on roadmap. And we support out of box Vegetation Studio and both asset create the mask along the path. I would say that I have started this jouney as I have seen a lot of nice assets but that not working together ..and a lot of dev are not really collaborative as they see new vendor like a thread and not like an chance to release a better service to the comunity .. so integration ( easy and smooth ) is always on top of my todo list

May I make two small suggestions?
    1. Please consider round-trip integration with Terrain Composer 2 and World Creator 2, if you have time. We're not all using Gaia (although I'm not knocking it!) or Map Magic. :)
    2. In your feature poll on this thread, you may want to rephrase the question. Asking "Do you want feature _____" is almost certain to get a high percentage of Yes votes. Who wouldn't want a new feature, especially if there is no perceived downside? A more useful question might be to compare several new features and ask interested parties to help prioritize them in your roadmap.

You really do not need integration with TC2. You finish your terrain and then add the road in, same as with Gaia. No integration needed.

Map Magic might be different though because it is procedural and I believe it streams. Might be difficult but who knows. :)

MapMagic and Sentieri will work. Using Sentieri procedural generator in run time. The only point is to figure out a node to generate the spawn point .. for example . if your stream create villages .. so each village can be a start-end and Sentieri will follow the steam .. just as example ..

Except that I don't finish my terrain and then do everything else. My workflow is more iterative, and I'm really looking for round-trip functionality in as many of my tools as possible. RT is hard, though, from a tool programming perspective, and I understand that. :)

It's now a month since the last message on this forum and no word from the author. Has the second round of the beta begun yet?

I PM:ed the author a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't yet received any reply. Is this project defunct?

Antonio, please – stop the constant feature creep and release something which is useful. You've been delayed for a year now, and even if Sentieri seems fantastic many of us will soon be forced to move on to something else (or even invent something else).

We see you spending a lot of time on side projects in what seems like an attempt to include everything in the first version of Sentieri. Everyone is looking forward towards what you are creating, but what comes over, at least to my mind, as a marked tendency to get side-tracked is seriously eroding your prospective customers' trust in your project.

Nothing has happened since February. The second beta round was seriously late even back then. (And you were talking about a first release in August 2017...!) "Beta is on hold as we are adding new features" is far from a positive thing; it's the sign of a project which is either managed completely ad hoc or which has spun out of control.

Don't tell me that I'm wrong. I'd love to be wrong. Just prove me wrong.

I might be misunderstanding, but it seems you are jumping to your own conclusions a bit? I feel to make a great asset you have to wait and polish everything, maybe something was not right with the asset..otherwise it will be a flop.. we all know the story, it's the same as with making games.

Good software takes time to develop. Best not to rush. Plus, I think there is a major update of Terra Painter coming which is a product already on the store for some time.

Any word on if this is still under development or did the devs move on to something else? I've been waiting for a couple of years. I know these things take time, but I haven't seen and update in a long time.

Have anyone heard anything from the devs?

This dev is like a lot of other devs who start one project and then when it's close to done they roll out another product and when that one's close to done they roll out another and another. And after years go by they come back to the original products and decide they are going to re-write them for the latest Unity and obsolete the original. And nothing ever seems to get finished for the people who bought the original product.

I just checked discord, forgot about that, and dev says he is starting back on this one after updates are done on the others he has released. Now saying a new beta is coming and hopes to release next year.

We can only wait and see. It looks so promising, but that is all we have is promises. ;)
I hope Antonio can get it finished.

I've been waiting 3 years and lost any excitement I had for this project (it was in beta then and almost done but never released); indeed it did look cool then, but sadly I don't think it will come.

Excitement died after year one. If he is picking it back up, then I suspect a great amount of work due to deprecation. I'll keep watching, but not holding my breath because it has been years and not even a beta in sight.
