Small bit of trivia from the Steam Hardware Survey for Windows platforms. http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey?platform=pc

I did a pivot of screen ratios back in March on February data and today on August data. Here's the results:

    February 2015
    Ratio / Percent
    16x10 14.4
    16x9 75.12
    3x2 0.14
    4x3 3.42
    5x4 5.83

    August
    Ratio / Percent
    16x10 11.83
    16x9 77.08
    3x2 0.21
    4x3 3.21
    5x4 5.44

Should I support 5x4 or 4x3 resolution? 5x4 is the ugliest significant resolution.

32 bit OSs are still 12%. What about those people?

You should make your game be aspect ratio independent, so it's not a matter of supporting any particular resolution.

Oh, it is. But there still is the need to test to ensure it works on supported resolutions. This is a non-trivial amount of work if you have a complex UI. My current process is to do all development and testing on 5x4 with the assumption that things will be better on wider ratios.

This affects scene framing and camera placement however, so I want to make sure I have thought through some of the issues before I get too deep.
