I'm sorry for the endless tone of pessimism and outrage, but why on this good planet of Earth did local/global toggle get turned into a dropdown?

    And the same for center/pivot?

I was under the impression Unity's UX designers were tasked with improving the user experience?

Could we just gather up all these insane ideas and put them in a box no one ever opens please, so professionals can get on with trying to use this largely wonderful game engine?

I agree that this decision has been quite maddening. I switch between Local/Global and Centre/Pivot all the time, and when we moved from 2019.4 to 2021.2, my team found this decision baffling and it continues to cause us daily frustration.

Whilst it's not strictly on topic, I will also highlight that the addition of the new "Spacebar" menu to the Scene View (to toggle widget visibility) was also a strange choice. That's an extremely useful hotkey to bind to something where it's hard to understand why it exists. Why would I want to toggle parts of the Scene View UI at a moments notice, rather than just setting it once in Editor Preferences?

I get that you've been trying to transition from an "outdated" (functional) UI to a new minimal aesthetic, and I appreciate it when tools take up minimal screen estate, but these changes impede our minute-to-minute workflows costing us a lot of time and frustration.

Hiding things in dropdowns only makes sense for settings with several modes, that you change between infrequently. Global/Local is a binary toggle that most people will be changing between routinely.

As a work around use the hotkeys (z and x) to toggle between these settings quickly. Lets hope they don't remove that next lol

You might have it hidden. Right click the scene tab and select "overlay menu". From there toggle "tools".

I'm also new and trying to learn Unity, and couldn't find it. I was looking right at it and didn't know what it was.

It seems to be called the "Toggle Tool Handle Rotation" option based on what it says when I hover over it. Here's a screenshot I took showing where it is, if anyone else who needs to find it comes across this post:

I'm taking the "Junior Programmer: Create with Code 1" course. The professor mentions using this toggle in Unit 1 - Player Control, Lesson 1.4 - Step into the Driver's Seat, Step 4. Make vehicle rotate instead of slide. (Just some more words in case anyone else can't find it.)

It also sucks because I installed the older Unity version 2021.3 just so I could follow along with the class, and that's the newest recommended version for it, but then nowhere in the video or lesson does it say where the option actually is for that version, since the video uses an older version instead. (I'm mostly enjoying the courses otherwise, besides things like that.)

Since it really is just an on/off switch, I also have no idea why it's a drop down now. But since I'm just learning about it, I'm also not really sure how it's useful. What do you normally use it for?
