I can't tell you how many times I have been testing a scene. Decided something is not laid out correctly. Spend time changing it. Then realize I am still in run mode and when I stop the game my changes are lost.

Is there some way to protect me from me? Some way to turn on a warning? Or some way to re-apply the changes?

It really feels broken that you can do extensive changes just to discover they are all going to be thrown out and there is nothing you can do about it.

Main Menu/Edit/Preferences/Colors/Play Mode Tint color. It changes the color of the Unity editor when it's in play mode so you can notice that it is in play mode so you don't expect your changes to be saved.

If you make changes to a single component you don't want lost, you can just copy the component and paste it back after exiting play mode.
