ORION - Major breakthroughs in noise reduction with Temporal AA and in performance gains using downsampling of the volume with minimal visual impact, coming soon in next update !!

A major update on ORION optimizations in the new Volumetric Nebula Clouds is now completed, I have now implemented Temporal AA which allows a massive reduction in noise and may use a lower volume sampling step for maximizing performance. Also now the cloud downsampling can be by any factor without affecting the scene object quality and border of objects with the volume for a pixel perfect effect at any downscale region.

The above images showcase the new systems in the Ethereal volume lighting and Sky Master ULTIMATE volume clouds, where have already been implemented and now the work has been ported also to ORION and will showcase the two new enhancements in a video in next posts.

 

New Fully Volumetric Nebula system - HDRP version



ORION - New Fully Volumetric Nebula system is now ported also to HDRP version (URP version is already included in the system). The HDRP Nebula version will come in the next asset update.

A new 2D space shooter sample using the shader and image effect nebulas is in the making, more info to come soon.

Hi, i am playing around with the URP nebula and looks absolutely spectacular , this is hands down making my space scene to next level, thanks a lot for this work

I wonder if i can control the nebula so that i can land on a planet below it, is this possible ? thanks

 

Hi, yes, there is a variable in the nebula controller to assign where the player will be in the height in respect to horizon, so could regulate this lower and lower as needed to eventually come out of the nebula.

Let me know if need more help on this.

ORION v1.1.0 is now released at the Unity Asset Store !​

Please note that this is a major update, now the project is separated in 4 installation modules, one to install for all pipelines and three more, one to install for each pipeline as needed. This way the project is directly ready for use after installation. Since the folder structure has radically changed and some files had to be doubled for both URP and HDRP, make sure to create a project or ORION backup before installing the new version, just in case of any issue.
