Hi,

I'm a bit confused by the package contents and various upgrade paths - if I want some nice volumetric fog and lights in URP, should I purchase Sky Master Ultimate or Ethereal?

I own InfiniCloud if that plays a role.

 

Hi, for fog and volumetric lighting Ethereal is enough, but I strongly recommend getting Sky Master ULTIMATE as is a more complete weather system that includes Ethereal and opens many more possibilities, plus offers demos with a complete clouds and fog - volume lights setup for direct use in such cases, as shown in above videos.

Thanks for your fast response! It confuses me why Ethereal is more expensive than Skymaster Ultimate, if Ethereal is included in SMU?
Also I can see an upgrade version from SMU to Ethereal for $5 - I don't understand why this would be required if it's already included.

The standalone is more expensive as is not the overall framework, and is for the cases where a user absolutely not want the overall and want only the volume lighting part.

Think of Sky Master ULTIMATE as a bundle of multiple modules that can ultimately be cheaper than the individual ones and as a loyalty program if a user make use of my full weather asset can have individual parts a lot cheaper.

The $5 upgrade is for the case you may need the extra forest demo and assets that are distributed only through the standalone Ethereal.

UPDATE:

I have now addressed an issue where the impostor lights might not appear in front of the camera, but on the back of the view. This was due to a Unity bug in older than 7.5.2 URP, so is advised to use above that version. The fix has been released to the store (v1.1.9e)

Set "After Skybox" or "After transparents" to renderer feature render order


Unity 2021 LTS

UPDATE:

I have noticed that the automatic forward renderer setup feature adds the fog renderer feature in the forward renderer, but does not alter the render order, which must be set to "After Skybox" in the renderer feature, so must be set up manually. Also can be set to "After transparents" to render the fog on top of water bodies or particles.

In the next update will handle the set up of the rendering order to default to after Skybox, so the system will be more ready for direct use.

Also I have tested the system in Unity 2021 and works great with point light volumetric shadows as shown in the above video.

- Added option to turn off fog and keep only the volumetric lights, with the "GlobalFogPower" variable. Also controls the global fog power and its noise is controlled with the new "GlobalFogNoisePower" variable.
- Added option to turn on noise only on volumetric lights. This mode is enabled when the "VolumeLightNoisePower" variable is set different to zero. The effect is fine tuned also by the "GlobalFogNoisePower" which adds extra noise to the effect. Note this noise is applied to the camera distance to the beams, thus may require extra tweaking of the raycast distances.
- Added option to use a 3D texture for the noise than calculate it in the shader.
- Added the new option in the manual

Ethereal v1.3.1
- Added extra checks in the new external TemporalAA module to avoid cases where is may break the main camera matrix. In the case where the camera seems to not render the scene objects, enable the orthographic mode and then revert back to perspective to reset the camera matrices.
- Added new demo scenes showcasing city lights and Hazy mode with various configurations. The Haze mode is heavier, so is targeted towards stronger systems.

- Added new shader version that has multiple new features
- New noise anchored to the scene so wont move as the player moves, ideal for finer noise where the motion effect may be more visible.
- New more accurate impostor rendering. Up to 128 lights support from the previous shader that supports 32 impostor lights.
- New Fog Only mode directly integrated and controlled with checkbox in connect Fog script
- New Infinite Local Lights mode directly integrated and controlled with checkbox in connect Fog script, the default mode is up to 6 lights
- Added option to use float numbers in Downsample, so can fine tune the noise versus performance gain ratio with many more options.

- Added new custom inspector with the most important fog control options for easier tweaking of the effect. IMPORTANT: The new custom inspector applies limits to some of the variables, so might change the settings in a scene made before the editor was introduced. The new editor is deactivated by default, so if when enabled the fog changes, could be a variable off the new limits.

- Added fix for the Humidity based multi scatter fog, where it would flicker when previewed in Unity editor when not in play mode. IMPORTANT:The fix also enables the proper handling of the "Fade Ramp" & "Blur Tint" parameters, if the local lights appear saturated after the update, change the texture in the "Fade Ramp" to another for best result.
